Because he was about 50% effective...maybe playing half the snaps will get more out of him. He should be a pass rush specialist now. More impact plays, hopefully.

"Yeah, I feel very good about those guys," Callahan said here Wednesday morning. "Do I think there's room for improvement? Absolutely. If we can find better, we'll get better. Do I think we're in terrible shape? Not at all. I think we have good, young talent we're excited about. The jump Mike Jordan and Fred Johnson could make, we're counting on it. Put in a year with off-season training, and strength playing a factor and being comfortable in the system for an entire offseason and training camp and we're counting on those guys to step up."
just saying the right things... Always a chance that could be our line up opening day... If so you don't want the coach saying they are all trash etc... that wont get players playing hard for you.

This supports the current guys while keeping them on their toes. I really didn't like this hire as offensive line coach, and I was puzzled by the stream of retirements, but he seems to be figuring some stuff out, and they improved last year with a M*A*S*H unit.

Geno is going to be 32 and last year had the most snaps of his career with some of the worst sack production. I took it to mean they want to get back to his normal number of snaps. He couldn't rest at all last season because of all the injuries on the DL. That becomes an even bigger load when you think about all the times Geno is double-teamed. If giving him 6 or 7 fewer snaps per game makes him more productive, I'm all for it

There is a whole shitload of youth and potential in that group. But not enough to make me feel good about it.
I hope we add at least two guys who are legitimate potential starters. Its fun to automatically count a player getting better because of an offseason, another year of seniority, and work they put in. Fact is it isn't a guarantee that they get better.
I re-watched that last game against the Browns the other day. My god I used to like to pretend Price has some huge upside... It's bad. I hope Turner and ZT have full say on OL and Tobin's opinion on OL means jack shit.
Imagine if Price was remotely a first round talent at RG...This team would be massively different, right? Such a huge disappointment. Hope and pray he was injured that he still shows something, but I''m not seeing it.

cause you have to keep geno fresh.. Did you read the article? He just played the most snaps in a year since his ACL injury and his stats were down.

Not because I've been pimping him, but I truly believe Fred Johnson is in the mix for starter; he was mentioned literally like 5 times in that article and boosted quite a bit.
Hobson mentioned he and Prince, but Callahan didn't mention Prince even once; all Fred.

Last year he played the most snaps of his career. I wouldn't have thought dialing it back to what he had in his All-pro seasons would be a hard sale.

His fellow NFL members voted him to the Pro Bowl.
He was more effective than a lot of fans give him credit for.
When our defense was among the best in the league a few years ago we had a deep rotation on the D-line. Geno and Dunlap both played fewer snaps back then.

I honestly don't know how alleged professional scouts could miss so badly on Price, Og and Fisher.
Price may be worse than Og.

Other than Williams, who has yet to play in the NFL, any better player would be any player from FA or someone drafted that knows how to block.

Think it depends on how many picks we can get off the guys we are potentially shopping. They have been saying this for a couple months now and I think they are sticking with it. I think they are going to draft a guy late at worst like throckmorton to develop into a starting guard a year or so down the line.
Maybe they work on solutions to the offense in FA more and really try to get young talent for the D in the draft and take a WR in the mid to late rounds for depth.
Who knows this is all speculative.

Then you don't know much about the NFL draft. It happens multiple times every year and even the best teams in the league have high picks that bust.

He said “ Bobby and John Miller played well for us they weren’t terrible “ lol. Said there also excited about the jump Fred Johnson and Micheal Jordon could make and also pointed to the adding of Isiah Prince as a waiver wire pickup. Extending Hopkins was a good move and I’m fine with Williams at LT we need to see if he can play. The rest of the line I think can be improved and I’m not sold on the guys we have. Bobby Hart and John Miller have been in the league 6 years and are what they are at this point below average starters. If Hart dosen’t play completely horrific we refer to it as Hart not being that bad lol. Wouldn’t be shocked one bit if two undrafted practice squad tackles in Johnson and Prince didn’t workout. I think Jordan could turn into a good guard but with all the holes on this roster we can’t go into the season hoping and banking on every unproven player to develop or workout we need more proven talent.

Miller has never been below average; he is average to above average and will NEVER hurt your team, but won't elevate it either.

Actions speak louder than words - and the last actions we saw were the Bengals trying to trade UP in the 2nd round to get Risner or Jaawan Taylor. This staff isn't sold on the current group. There's some good pieces, but there's some bad apples as well.
IF we spend $10 million on a player in outside free agency (hey I can dream) it would be a vet OG or RT to mix in with all the youth.

I'm hoping Johnson can take over RT. In my mind we can use upgrades at both right and left guards. Price concerns me, a lot. And Jordan didn't impress much either but I suppose they'll suffice as backups and hoping they improve.

That's all I took from the interview. That's the reason they were trying so hard to move up to get Risner last year.

With Fred Johnson showing what a stable left tackle can do for an offense (suddenly able to score 30+ per game when he played majority of the snaps there), and Jonah returning I am more OK with the Oline then I was last year at this time.
It's a gamble tho to go into the year with the same players. The youth and potential is there. I'd at least like to see a guard signed in FA with Miller having injury issues and Price not looking like a good fill in.
And slam me if you must, but Hart did improve. Now did he go from terrible to average.....maybe and that's not enough to solidify the RT spot, and maybe. But he did improve.
