Because average per carry can depend a lot on how a RB is used and how much he is used.  Are you really going to argue that Matt Breida is a better RB than Zeke Elliott and Saquan Barkley because he averaged more yards per carry last year?

Average per carry is an important stat and should not be ignored.  But when you have a back that has 85% of the RB carries for  team like MIxon did last year his average per carry is going to be effected.

And for some reason you ignore the fact that in 2018 Mixon averaged 4.9 per carry which was 7th in the league among backs with at least 150 carries.

There's a couple notable improvements there (Henry, Cook, Drake, Kamara).

The Panthers seem to have found a way to turn their season around without McCaffrey. That said there's still only 3 winning teams on this list out of the top 10 highest paid RBs versus 4 teams on this list with 1 win or less.

So 20% of the teams with winning records are on this list while 40% of the teams with 1 or less Ws are on this list.

5 of the top 10 rushers in the NFL by yardage are not on this list.
14 of the top 20 rushers in the NFL by yardage are not on this list.
9 of the top 10 rushers in the NFL by YPC are not on this list.
15 of the top 20 rushers in the NFL by YPC are not on this list.

It's a bit stronger looking than it was after Week 2, but investing heavily in a RB still just does not seem to be the way to go.
