Really, this isn't about how bad Taylor has been, even though he's been the worst coach in the NFL over the past two years.
No, this thread is here to list all of the excuses which have been attributed to Taylor to explain way his failures and why these failures have nothing to do with him at all. No ridiculous non-sense will be spared in explain away responsibility. No logic is allowed in this thread because any post with an ounce of logic in it would only conclude that Taylor is responsible for his horrific record. And, we just can't have that, can we? Excuse #1 - Injuries. Every team has them, but they are always way, way worse in Cinci so the HC should get a mulligan. Excuse #2 - Players retired. Every team has players retires, but they are always way, way worse in Cinci so the the HC should get a mulligan. Excuse #3 - Crappy culture left by last coach (who happened to win far more games than his replacement with the same players), but since it's Cinci it's way, way worse and who could have predicted that this new and better culture could have resulted in way, way fewer wins. So the HC should get a mulligan because it's not his fault that his new culture didn't gel with the players who had actually won games before. Excuse #4 - Taylor didn't know that Pollack was god OL coach when he was hired by the team so he fired him go to bring in his friend Turner. It wasn't his fault that he didn't know that Turner wasn't any good at all. They were drinking buddies and how was Taylor suppose to know that all the boast Turner did while drunker than a skunk was all just BS. Having a bad OL coach could not possibly have been predicted so the HC should get a mulligan. Excuse #5 - Bobby Hart looked coachable on tape so sign him to a 3 year deal and don't bother upgrading the position. Oh wait, that's on bad OL coach Turner. Since no other NFL team had Turner as their OL Coach they all had an unfair competitive advantage. This competitive disadvantage was so egregious that a new NFL rule barring teams from firing any HC who had such a bad assistant under him. Excuse #6 - AJ Green grew old and slow. Oh, say it ain't so. Every team has players who grow old and get slower since it happened each and every day, but in Cinci it is way, way worse so the HC should get a mulligan. Excuse #7 - Nobody can win with Andy Dalton (Something that we've all read here in any number of threads). Yeah, its true for Taylor anyways, nobody can win with Dalton and, once again, since it's in Cinci it is way, way worse and the HC should get a mulligan. Forget the logic that Marvin won with Andy cause, well, that would violated the rules of the thread and I just can't do that in my opening post, can I? Excuse #8 - The OL was oh bad. Yes it was and is and was also last season. It just isn't Taylor's fault that he mis-judged how bad the OL was. Even at the start of this season he was saying people were being unfair about the line. Of course, how could anyone ever expect any Head Coach to ever see that the OL sucked oh so bad? None of the experienced NFL Head Coaches would share their player crystal ball with Taylor, so how in the world was he suppose to know these guys weren't any good at all? Excuse #9 - Marvin ruined John Ross (see earlier John Ross excuse thread from a couple of years ago) and there was no way anyone, especially Taylor, could have known just how badly Marvin had ruined John Ross. Not having John Ross available and ready to play just destroyed Taylor's offensive design and genius, and we all know that it takes a great deal to recover from such a blow as this. Therefore, the HC should get a mulligan. Excuse #10 - Winning isn't everything anyways. Participation trophies are awarded and that should be enough for anyone! With this in mind, Taylor is perfectly on course in guiding the franchise along. This one alone should be cause to extend Taylor's contract today, for at least 30 years in length. We can all look forward to the team handing out participation trophies to their players while other teams are in the playoffs. Excuse #11 - Dave Shula was given 5 years. Therefore, and considering today's modern sympathy for the pathetic, Taylor really deserves 20 years to implement his plan. Excuse #12 - Taylor, by rule, was not allowed to join the team until late because he was a junior coach on a playoff team. This mean he had a late start and being young and inexperienced, he wasn't able to put together a staff very quickly. Because of this he has never been able to get his system in place. Now, please, no one is allowed to insert any logic here by saying that other coaches from playoff teams have gone to new jobs and not had this problem, or that it really doesn't take years to put in a new system because teams do it all the time. No, you cannot say that as that does not promote the narrative that Taylor isn't response for the mess he's in-charge of.

There are plenty of blame threads, but the excuses don't get any notoriety because they are buried. How is anyone expected to change their mind about Taylor when they haven't heard the excuses? Let's get the excuses all out in the open so people can make up their minds with all the facts!
