Bengals v Raiders history

Bengals are only 11-19 v Raiders in regular season and 0-2 in playoffs. Only 2-15 against Raiders on the road

Notable games

Surprisingly the Bengals are 3-1 in the 4 regular season games when both teams went to the playoffs. In 1970 the Bengals opened the season with a win against the Raider, then lost 6 straight, but then won 7 straight to finish 8-6 and win the division. Both the Raiders and the Bengals lost to the Colts in the playoffs . . In 1975 the Bengals scored a defensive TD and beat the Raiders 14-10 despite only having 184 yards of offense. Ken Anderson had the 2nd worse start of his career with a 3.9 passer rating (4-19, 75 yds, 0 td, 4 int). They had a rematch in the playoffs that year. Anderson posted a 110.3 passer rating but lost 28-31. . . In 1982 the Bengals easily beat the Raiders 31-17. Both the Bengals and the Raiders lost in the playoffs to the Jets that year. . . Finally in 1990 the Bengals lost to the Raiders 24-7 in the regular season and 20-10 in the playoff game where Bo Jackson suffered the hip injury that would eventually end his football career.

The most notable day in Bengals-Raiders history took place ten years ago.

In October of 2011, the Bengals traded the "retired" Carson Palmer to the then-Oakland Raiders for a first-round pick in 2012 and a second rounder in 2013 which a significant amount of compensation for a quarterback who had no interest in playing for Cincinnati.

This is the proudest accomplishment of Mike Brown’s career.

This deal obtained Dre Kirkpatrick and Giovani Bernard in 2012 and 2013 and also eventually led to Hue Jackson becoming offensive coordinator.

I thought Zeitler was somehow involved in this trade?

And, of course, Palmer sucked there and was passed off to the Cardinals where he suddenly found his form and played some of his best football.

I remembered actually feeling bad for the Raiders, but not so much any more.  They paid Gruden ridiculous money out of nostalgia and now have an amazing stadium (though it doesn't feel like they have home field advantage that much in any of the games).

This is a defining moment in franchise history. January 6, 1991 the Bengals crushed the Houston Oilers 41-14 in the playoffs at Riverfront. January 13, 1991 was the playoff game fredtoast references in where Bo suffered his hip injury. His NFL career was over and his recovery to resume playing MLB wasn't easy. He eventually landed with the White Sox, but never fully displayed the athleticism and power he did when playing ball with the Royals.

More disappointing to Bengals fans, the team lost that playoff game against the Raiders. I don't think most of us fans in 1991 anticipated that when flashing forward to 2021, the team would go over a decade without making the playoffs and have a three decade span without experiencing a playoff win. Here we are in 2021 and the Bengals have not experienced any post season success since 1991 in a stadium that no longer exists and against a team that no longer exists (Oilers became the Titans).
