Apple of PFF's Eye

Let's be real, who saw this coming? Yes, it is a week outdated, but damn.

Willie Lutz (@willie_lutz) Tweeted:

Eli Apple continues to rise up and play great football for the #Bengals.

Since they returned from the bye in Week 11, among CBs, Apple ranks:

?- PFF Coverage Grade (88.6)
?- NFL Passer Rating Against (11.0)
?- Catch Rate Per Target (35%)

@EliApple is shutting down the NFL. https://t.co/x6udeo4EKj https://twitter.com/willie_lutz/status/1475470048504553481?s=20

He ranks first in all those metrics. I couod not get it to embed properly.

Love to see it. I’ve noticed his improved play. People were really blowing him up for the touchdown against KC but it wasn’t as simple as “Eli got burned.” Just a great call by KC that really stressed Bates in a single high look.

Apple has been playing really well. If he continues, he could be eliminating the need for a corner early in the draft.

Wouldn't be the first time the Bengals took someone else's castoff and made a high level player out of them. Remember Reggie Nelson? Or also this season Awuzie and BJ Hill?
