The mystery has been solved, the ref farted and whistled by accident at the same time. He made the right call aftwards and stuck to his guns.

Inadvertent whistle or purposeful whistle (i don't know that there's even really a difference), the play is dead and they do it over. They can't blow a whistle to stop any play and then say the down counts. "The measure of a man's intelligence can be seen in the length of his argument."

It was quite amazing to see a really cleanly played game, largely butchered by the zebras.

I don't think anyone expected them to ref again, it's kinda nice to be on the other side of these things tho

Yep, they need to figure out who blew it, then see if it's the same guy that threw the flag on Khalid for roughing the passer. Then they need to look into his gambling debts before he is allowed to ref another game.

If the defenders seemed to give up on the play, it was probably because they didn't think Burrow & Boyd could make a play like that. They might have thought Burrow was out of bounds. But there's no way that one can make the case that it was because of the whistle.

I don’t know folks, I think we got away with one here; if the rule states that a whistle for any reason kills the play.
Good for us lol. https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1482484667135655936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1482484667135655936%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-2311219374131199007.ampproject.net%2F2112231523002%2Fframe.html

Premature Whistles is a slippery slope.... taking away plays like that would wildly affect games.

We can play devils advocate because rules say so, but what ref on what planet blows a whistle DURING THE PLAY? Idk if I've ever witnessed anything more ridiculous. |
