Them Blues
#1
Any fans of them blues here?  You know Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters,  BB King,  Howlin' Wolf etc.

Well we might as well start at the very beginning,  yes the blues was old before 1920 but this is considered to be the first blues on record by history buffs like myself.

Crazy Blues Mamie Smith 1920

As we all know this music influensed Jimmie Rodgers,  The Carter Family who influensed.....and so it went the evolution of Big Band,  Country, Rock and Roll all can be traced back to those southern cotton fields.

No no not just a bunch of old timey music,  a nice mix of old and new.

Pink Floyd got that name from old prewar blues cats PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council. both not too well known so how those guys knew about them..???

How about some Oreo Cookie Blues?

So how about some PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council?

Pink recorded a couple records in the 20's then disappeared, was rediscovered in the 60's,  this is from that period in his career.  But was never well known more for guys like myself.

Floyd had 4/5 records around 1938ish,  that was it...poof!

He was less known than Anderson.

Kinda weird a band not known for them blues would go with PINK FLOYD.

Both guys from that Piedmont school of them blues,  that being Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia  The Carolinas.

Them blues comes in many guises, this is a cover of a Hank Williams classic. Hank would be proud.

Actually Emmett Miller first recorded the tune in the late 20's, Hank got it from him. Miller performed in black face.

Here we have a cover of a 1930 Son House classic, House along with Charley Patton, Tommy Johnson*** Ishman Bracey, Willie Brown the fathers of them Mississippi Delta Blues as far as on record goes. Those who influensed them are simply lost and it is a shame.

*** remember the black guy (Chris Thomas King) in "Oh Brother Were Art Thou". There was a real life Tommy Johnson. His "Canned Heat" a name that blues rock band from the 60's used.

Buddy Guy.  Jimi Hendrix.  Both blues cats.

Don't listen to the old stuff, but love the blues.

I've seen some great blues players in Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Clapton, etc. There's "the blues" and then there are guys who take it to another level. Some really great modern blues players. The one I'm sad about not getting to ever see is BB. I had a few chances, something always came up and then he died and the opportunity was gone. As a guitarist I massively appreciate good blues and how much of a foundation it's been for so much other modern music.
