Burrow Recruiting Collins
(03-19-2022, 03:50 PM)NATI BENGALS Wrote: I'm not going to get too worked up over this. Nobody in the NFL would trade anything for him even though he supposedly had a great contract. Instead his team cut him (they reportedly have $20+ million in cap space according to https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cap/ ) and will pay almost $9 million for him to not be on their team next year.

I was never on the Collins bandwagon. I’m pretty sure he’s got good football left.
My question is will he play well on a smaller contract than he enjoyed in Dallas? I’d also want to know all the reasons Jerry Jones just gifted him to the league if he’s such a good player.

Vegas has the browns at a better change to winning SB than us. That’s not the end all be all, Bc they were wrong about the Bengals, but the Browns will be very dangerous. So will the ravens. Same for Chiefs, Chargers and Broncos.

Have we upgraded enough? I think the answer is no. Making the SB is extremely difficult. Just Bc we have Burrow and are a young team, doesn’t mean anything.

I agree, browns have an elite defense, an elite o-line with the best RB duo in the league, and now they just grabbed a top 10 QB who also happens to be a duel threat

Never say never. watson told Browns no and a day later said yes

Today and apparently, the guy told him he hopes he signs and La'el responded 'We'll see what happens'.

I have no idea what the hang up is, but just trying to remain objective about the reality that Cincinnati is facing. They have some hefty contract extensions coming up and likely want to keep those guys together. Throwing fat contracts at OL will help in the short term but could make it more difficult to keep things together in the long term.

Unfortunately, if they don't, nature may take that offer away from us. Catch-22

It honestly could be anything. He could be on his way out, though I feel he wouldn’t be in kenwood if he could go somewhere else, they could be working on the DEETS or I have no idea at this point.

If he has a med problem it wasnt known by the Cowboys according to their insiders.  The hip may have prevented them from moving him to guard.. but nothing worth failing a physical.  Who knows what this is...

after he signing a new contract in 2019, he has started in 10 of 33 possible games.. so what do you call in and out of the lineup ?? im not against signing him, im against rolling a long term contract with the concerns that Dallas also had with keeping him.. pretty simple to me... sign him to a 2 year contract, draft a tackle that can be groomed to replace him if needed.. win, win situation

Or dudes got time to kill before his flight and wanted to get out of PBS after rejecting their low ball offer.

This is about money. It always is. Bengals wouldn’t be “still interested” if it was about his physical. Collins didn’t like the offer. Easy as that. He’ll go and see what else he can get, and it’s easier for the next team to know what deal they have to beat. Then they’ll call Bengals again and say do you want to match this (at best) or beat this offer. Bengals will say no.

We reach for a RT at 31. We’ve all seen this play out 100x with the Bengals.

Hmm, the one surgery in 2020 kept him out 16/22 missed games and 1 5 game suspense accounts for almost everything else.

Could be, but I doubt he’s flying commercial and probably wouldn’t be “waiting” on a flight

The window is open now while this talent is on rookie deals. If we don’t win one in next 4 years, it will be exponentially harder.

Burrow is not playing out his rookie contract without a contract extension and neither is Chase. We may see rumbles of an extension for Burrow as early as next season. Patrick Mahomes signed his fat contract after this third season. Higgins will be up for extension in two seasons. I don't think your assessment is accurate.

I'm chalking all this recent Collins talk up to its Saturday. We sit online and talk sports all day, but after being released, and flying to Cincy, La'el might just be wanting to unwind for the weekend and explore his possible new home. I also think that after a hectic week, the Cincy FO was happy to go home and spend a bit of time with their families.

Miami would be the only one paying for this private flight. It’s gonna take them a couple hours to get a plane ready and here to pick him up.

It’s not. Especially “you can just cut guys later.” It doesn’t work like that. Players aren’t going to sign for no guaranteed money.

Sad but likely true.
The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.
