Hurst, 1 year 3.5M with incentives to 5M if I read right.

Just curious but was Cappa's deal originally reported at 4yr/40 or am I losing it more and more as I get older and 35M was always the reported total?

It was originally announced at 4/40 but came back 4/35 later on that day.

Thanks.
That's a win/win. It's a better deal than I initially thought and I kept some of my sanity.

Clay Johnston had 10 special teams tackles last year. That was something like top 30 in the league.
In just 7 games with the Bengals he played 135 snaps on special teams and 45 on defense recording 17 tackles and a forced fumble.
He only had one tackle in the postseason, but it was huge. He was the one who stopped Derrick Henry on the 2 point attempt early in the game.

Clay Johnston is under contract. At least listed as such. IDK if it is a PS deal or not.

I have always been a big fan of Uzomah. I think he was underrated around here.
And I am not as excited about Hurst as some people here.
But no way Uzo is better than Hurst plus $3-$4.5 million. Not even close. Not with all the weapons we have at WR and RB.

I could have sworn I saw it on Twitter (Malik tweet) or Bleacher originally but OTC confirmed.

There's a $1m yearly Pro Bowl incentive and something else like that I believe. So it is $35m but could be up to $40m if he hits his incentives.

Stanley Morgan is the only one I am really concerned about re-signing.
I'd re-sign Reiff as a back up but not as a starter.

I WAS a fan of Uzo, but now that he left for NY he's just another guy playing for another team.. I'm not a fan of other team's players.. Never have been, never will be. End of story..

As much I'd love to see them add Armstead or Collins, there's gonna come a time soon where they will need an offensive lineman or two on rookie contracts that can play. With big pay days ahead for Burrow, Chase and others, maybe the way to go is just adding a solid veteran at RT (1 or 2 year deal) with a 1st or 2nd rd pick behind him this year. And then maybe a veteran LG (Spain) with Carman behind him. Both with the hopes that the younger guys will be quality starters in the future.
Obviously the better the veteran RT or LG/C are, the better it will be in the short term - but I think the short term deals with be important for the Bengals retaining their younger skill position players in the future
And in writing this, I do not get why the signed Fred Johnson to come back at 2.4M. Unless, they think he's gonna play a lot, this seems like a waste of cap space as they have other young backup lineman already under contract at cheaper salaries.
Anyway, just some thoughts on a rainy Sunday

I would also say that guys like Bates ($12.9 on franchise tag), Boyd ($10.1 mil, FA after '23), Mixon ($11.42 mil, Club option after '23), and Reader ($13.66 mil FA after '23) all come off the books w/in 2 years, or could.
Having a rookie scale S (Daxton Hill?), RB, WR, or NT who can play sure would be nice, too. The need is not as great as OL ATM because we have frontlines guys who can play. Gonna have to make a decision on Jonah after this year as well.
