The draft is a day away and to form the long term dynasty this is going to be a key draft for the Bengals. Mr.Mayo has done his final mock draft and I wanted this thread to be more focused on the rumors and then the actual draft. Jackson Carman was leaked last year, definitely reliable info out there. Here are some of the top rumors:
The first round pick seems dedicated to two positions, corner and then IOL. The Bengals like Kyler Gordon, Kair Elam, and Andrew Booth and dont like Roger Mcreary. If those 3 are not available they would then look for Zion Johnson or Tyler Linderbaum. Pass rushers could be a consideration but the belief appears to be that there wont be any there that they want.
Trey Mcbride is really interesting. Bengals seem to love him and so do the Buccaneers. He would be available in the 40s but if you cant trade back and dont want to trade up in the second then he could be the worst case scenario on their boards. Peter King said they are still in shock Uzomah chose the Jets when the contracts were basically the same and are hyper focused on the position.
OL-They are happy with their depth and believe Carman could be fine and also believe Trey Hill can be fine. Hill is coming off 2 meniscus injuries and Carman was coming off of a back. Both could take big steps based on that. Because of this dont expect any late round OL picks. However if Tyler Linderbaum or Zion Johnson are available to make this the best OL in the league and fill LG/C they wont have problems moving on from Carman.
DL-Similar to OL they are pretty happy with the depth they have built. Hendrickson/Hubbard/Ossai at EDGE, Hill/Reader at DT and then Cam Sample as backup 3T and Josh Tupou as back up NT. There isnt a lot of room for depth. However they really want to get a high end pass rusher to round out this room. They would prefer it be at DT but will take it however they can get it. They play a lot of 5 DL formations.
DL names-Logan Hall is a hot rumor. Devonta Wyatt, George Karlaftis, and Arnold Ebitike have been connected.
WR-The Bengals have gone balls to the wall bringing in receivers and really want to find cheap depth behind the big 3 and the eventual Tyler Boyd replacement. If somehow they can sign Chase and Higgins there will be no money for a third. Need him on a rookie deal. Interstingly Hobson did not rule out them using the first or second at the position. He suggested if one of the elite guys falls to them it may make sense to keep them on a cheap deal and trade Higgins.
S-No secrets here, Bates and Bell are in contract years. Probably cant resign both. Need a long term starter and depth.
CB-Apple is on a 1 year deal and at the very very best he will be average. CB is the priority this draft not only for a starter but also for future depth.
TE-Hurst and Sample on 1 year deals, they are looking for a long term answer on a rookie deal.
Visits-The Bengals have really targeted a few positions and ignored others. DL(specifically pass rushers) has been a massive focus, the entire secondary is a focus and they dont seem to be fans of the depth or long term outlook right now, TE is huge, and also receiver has been a group they have targeted.
QB/RB/LB/OT are very low priority. Unless they feel like they are getting a steal those wont be touched.
The biggest theme of this draft will be finding starters down the road who can contribute on rookie deals. The Bengals are going to try to extend Burrow at the end of the season(not going to wait the extra 2 years.) While it may seem crazy to not go all in on his rookie deal they would be trying to get him to a long deal before the salary cap explodes. S/CB/TE/WR all need future starters.
Burrow, Higgins, Jonah Williams, Logan Wilson, and Jessie Bates all need extensions soon. Free agency is over for Cincinnati for awhile. Time to find contributors later in the draft.

I still think the Bengals either sign a player or two and or extend Bates after the draft and see how it all works out. I hadn't heard we had a close deal with Uzomah and I just thought we couldn't afford the deal he got. I would be shocked if they were similar offers and he chose to leave. TE in the 1st is on my list of positions I would be upset if we drafted. I'll accept it if we draft one in the 4th or later but if we go earlier than that I hope it's while trading back to pick up extra picks. It will be interesting seeing how the 1st Rd starts to shake out and what players will be available at 31.

Bates isn't gonna get 18-20 mill a year from anyone not even us. I've never even seen where he officially signed his franchise tag.

I think we 100% take Elam if he’s there at 31.

He hasn't signed it yet. I'm not sure what exactly he's asking or what exactly we're offering. I'm just thinking we have money left to spend and we are probably waiting to see what positions we need to address after the draft. If we come out of the draft in good shape then I could see them trying to secure him to a long term deal. But probably not for top safety money.

Yeah, I think Elam is gone who is the most likely player for us at 31. Booth has an extensive injury history, Gordon isn't
our first want and might be had in a trade back. Expecting a trade back and we wait till Friday to see who our new Bengals
are. Really like Logan Hall and either Cam Taylor Britt or Zyon McCollum to be new Bengals for us.
Would be really happy with this as well as Winfrey or Travis Jones at DT in our thoughts. Devonte Wyatt is off our list with
his domestic problems. Look for a Matthew Butler type in the 3rd or mid rounds if we don't get a DT somewhat early. Also
I still really like a lot of Ends that should be available early in Karlaftis, Ebetituke (spelling?), Mafe and others.
Lots of damn good Safeties to be had early. Dax Hill, Cine, Pitre, Brisker etc.
Also agree with Pulses that TE will be looked at. I want Berringer in the mid rounds or Ferguson and there are others I like.
We will get a Returner like Doubs, Melton, Calvin Austin at some point with Simmons speak.

Well, if we know the problems aren't a big deal Wyatt would be my favorite pick at DT for us...
Even over Hall, Jones or Winfrey who I all like. I just don't know if we gamble on a player with off field problems anymore.

I think he's gone (he will play the tag out this year obviously) and we use the money elsewhere and draft a guy this year to take his spot next year.

I mentioned in another thread/post that if we do take him, we're in a better position than most teams to take these kind of shots, and his domestic case from January of 2020 seemed to have been family related. Not that it makes it any better, and without knowing the details of that story, who knows what kind of character this guy is. If we select him, I'm trusting the Bengals have done their research and investigating prior to doing so.

Yeah, Elam is looking more and more likely to be gone before 31. And KC needs CB too, I don't see him being available.

I think that the Bengals have DT (specifically 3T, not another NT) as a priority as big as CB and bigger than IOL. That doesn't mean it will be there first round pick, but if Karlaftis is there, I could wager he will be the pick with no trade back.
If there is a glut of a safety like Cine and Hill, Linderbaum, Booth, Gordon, and Wyatt, I can almost guarantee they will trade back, even if just for an early fourth.
However, if Karlaftis is there, I think they don't hesitate and draft him immediately.

The news that he was playing through an injury (and the film bears that out...you saw a big difference before and after) makes me agree with this. The only issue I have with him is the grabby nature and his propensity to draw penalties, but I think that can be coached out of him.
That being said, I still believe that a guy like Logan Hall or Karlaftis is going to take precedence given the depth of CB talent in the draft. Hard to believe I am saying that about a DT, but I believe they saw first hand that they need more pass rush to finish a game and how it ended them.

With you on everything on here, but I would much rather take Bryan Cook in Rd 3 as I think he is an elite prospect and could be a better pro than all these other guys. When he was off the field for UC, the defense looked very average. Most underrated prospect of the draft, IMHO.
Then again, maybe someone else feels like I do and he goes in Rd 2.

Yep Elam fits very much what Anarumo looks for.
Excels in zone.
Physical.
Length.
Speed.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

I've liked Karlaftis since the NCAA season was going on, but basically figured he'd be gone by our pick.
Now seeing that team sources are mentioning him has me a bit intrigued; it wouldn't hurt to have 2 Hubbards on the team for another decade.
Could also be a smokescreen (and of course, there's a good chance he'll be gone by the time we pick), but it's a rumour I can get behind.
Other than him, I'd be cool with any of the rumoured-to-Cincinnati prospects and trust the team will make a wise decision on the pick.
Also read today that Zion met with the team.

There is always someone who unexpectantly falls... hopefully its someone we need.
