0-3 and We Can Forget About Play-Offs
#1
The Bengals have indeed painted themselves into a corner. Partly because they didn't play many starters one single play in preseason and came out rusty and flat as yesterdays beer. Now Bengals HAVE TO WIN in New York or they can forget about 2022 season play-offs, and Fans can start talking Draft Day before October as in so many other lousy Bengals seasons.

This is not me. This is what John Madden and others have said over the years on TV about 0-2 teams. That the problem with 0-2 is that if you go to 0-3, you can forget play-offs because 0-3 teams almost never make the play-offs.

Now the Jets just came back and beat Cleveland Sunday. This will not be an easy game ON THE ROAD in New York.

The Bengals have painted themselves into a corner. The defending AFC Champs can forget about even returning to the play-offs if they lose and go to 0-3. THE SEASON DEPENDS ON BEATING JETS. It's time The Bengals WAKE UP and realize THIS IS A MUST WIN GAME. Preseason is over. I repeat. Preseason is over. WAKE UP BENGALS. It's Now or Never and The Fat Lady is getting ready to sing an end to Bengals season even before October.

So GO BENGALS, it's time to man up and get serious. As John Madden and others always said, if you fall to 0-3, you can forget play-offs.

0-2 w those losses being to a Dak-less Cowboys and Trubiski-lead Stoolers team at home? I’ve already forgotten about the playoffs.

So there are two ways to rank teams. One is by their record, in which case we're definitely still in the picture for the playoffs. The other is by their predictive record, which is what your believe a team is capable of based on what they've shown us thus far. Some people call these "power rankings."

When people say we are out of the playoffs or not going to make the playoffs, they are not talking about the former. They're talking about the latter.

The NFL is about the flavor of the month club. Not uncommon for several teams to start off bad or even go into mid season lulls like losing 3 of 4 or 4 of 5, yet, find their footing. We've seen it happen for years.

Is 0-3 ideal or even 1-2? Of course not but this team only has to win their division and if they win Sunday they'll be no worse than a game back and if they lose Sunday no worse than 2 games. That's the beauty of playing one game a week. Guys get nicked up or develop bad habits and players and coaches have an entire week to get it right. Remember, this ain't a team coming off of a 4-13 record.

There are so many ways to be pessimistic and optimistic. Optimist says we dropped games to teams like Jets, and Bears, Browns last year- pessimist says we look worse than we did at this time last year.

My new prediction for season-end record with these two losses is between 7 and 9 wins. This is assuming the team gets closer to what we expect, but still knowing there's more gradual improvement that will have to happen over the season.

If this team doesn't get things corrected soon though, this team could end up with double-digit losses.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

We can still win the division because we lost both our games by 3 points and we could be 2-0.

Ooooonnnn the other hand, the losses the the rest of the division suffered this week were all between 1-4 points, so technically the entire division could be 2-0 and that makes things look harder...I think.

I'd say Burrow looking like he forgot how to play football is a bigger issue than our record.

Last 2 years, no 0-2 teams made the playoffs.

And we're like Woah can we start 0-3 and make it?

Well after this, we play Dolphins and Ravens.

Where are you getting a half game back from? They lost a division game already and all the teams have 1 more win than the Bengals..

The Bengals lost to the Stealers so they couldn't all be 2-0 and who cares how much the loss is by? They lost to Cooper Rush and Mitch Trubisky lol. A loss is a loss.. imagine when they play good QBs and offenses..

We also would have accepted Lou Costello as an answer.
