I need all the "Zac sux" folks to look themselves in the mirror, ask themselves this question, and answer it honestly:
Would it be rational for a franchise that hadn't won a playoff game in 1/3 of a century to fire a young coach who took them to a Superbowl in only his 3rd year in charge?
Zac Taylor could take this team to the Super Bowl this year, win it, and before training camp is over next year the same old people with the same old grudges would be calling for him to be fired. It's as if they would rather be right in their 1st take that he sucks, than anything else.

This team has a lot more problems than Zac as OC. First of all the gameplan and call sheet is truly is a group effort. Pitcher is in charge of third down. He doesn’t call the play but when it becomes third he knows he’s got to have a play ready to suggest. Zac has what he wants to call but wants an alternative. The same thing involves Callahan and Tre Wayne’s in other downs and distance. Pollack has his as well. So it’s truly a group effort. Zac gets others suggestions.
But the bottom line is the OL, Williams, and Mixon aren’t excelling. Burrow has had his ups and downs. But the bottom line is the poor start has put them in a hole. Not the Browns loss. That’s all on Taylor. He should get huge praise for last year but criticism for this year.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I think the board lumps everything into the playcalling bucket.
But, I think play design is probably a bigger issue. They don't seem to use slants much. They don't seem to do screens where the d-line gets drawn in and they pass to the RB. Certain things like that.
Quite frankly, I think gameplanning is an issue too. And I'm not sure they're great at scouting opponents and gameplanning how to attack them.
But, yes...Mixon and Jonah are struggling. Mixon is terrible at making guys miss. And he's missing holes.
And overall, I think your post is really good and fair.

Well there’s a lot of unknowns. How much are they trying to appease what Joe wants? They obviously made some great adjustments in the KC games last year. They obvious had so great play calls to get last second wins in the playoffs. They obviously had some great imagination in blowing out the Ravens last year and the Steelers. But their Redzone and particularly inside the ten and short yardage has been an issue period. But not being able to run the ball whereas the new OL additions were suppose to be great at run blocking seems to squarely point at Pollack.

I mean, you and I both were predicting a monster year from Mixon. I am completely baffled by how bad his vision has been.
BTW, is that true about who is calling which plays? If so, very informative and makes me think less of both Pitcher and Pollack...

Calling the plays no. Different coaches are tasked with situational plays. They are a part of the call sheet but basically they are that situation OC and contribute to the play call

Holy Cow....A voice of reason! Crucify him! LOL
I am apparently the only Zac Taylor fan on the board. I also felt like the only one this time last year. Then we make our run and the Coach of the Year posts were all over the place. Now everyone wants to fire him again.
If we make another run in the playoffs you guys will change your tune again.

Prior to last December's playoff push, I wanted Taylor gone.
He earned the right to not only stick around this year, but next year as well.
For me, it'd be position coach(es) change, perhaps replace Callahan and give playcalling duties to new OC.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

Good to know, still don't like a lot of the 3rd down calls but Pitcher is the QB coach and Burrow and him are close so
they should improve as the season goes on. Burrow is still really young and he can figure it out with Pitcher working
with him I am sure. Will help if we give much more snaps to Perine and Evans IMO.
The RB has to be able to pick up the blitz and have some sort of vision unlike Mixon right now.

We are fickle, can you blame us? After all the years of losing in the Playoffs before Zac?
Sled was calling for Zac to take us to the Playoffs last year and make a run at the SB before the season even started. So you
have a fellow Zac fan, I guess I am a Zac fan to a point. I don't like Mixon getting all these snaps when he sucks at picking up
the blitz and not being able to see giant holes right in front of him.
I only hoped for what Sled said to happen but didn't have much faith in Zac cause of his record, after it coming to fruition I
have much more faith in it happening again, still, have to fix the LT and RB situation for it to happen.

I know a good Head Coach when I see one. That said, I'm not against him giving up the play calling, and have said so in the past. I'm just not 100% on Brian Callahan as the OC making the calls, so until I know what plays Taylor calls, which one's Callahan calls, and which one's Joe changes at the line, I'm not sold. And to be truthful, none of us know any of that.

Synric claims to know I think. Saw a few of his posts saying Callahan is the OC who calls the plays but I see Zac calling
plays on the sideline before the play a lot so I honestly don't know lol
But I agree, I am not against Zac giving up the play calling, I think it is too much to have on a Head Coach's plate.

Taylor calls the plays. Doesn’t mean like I mentioned earlier that different coaches don’t have situational responsibility. Like Dan Pitcher I think is in charge of something like some third down situations. So he’s trained to have a play call ready as if he’s calling it. Zac then can use his or Dan’s. Other coaches have other situations. They are all specialists for their situation and have studied; adopted; copied; and are the OC for that situation. Zac’s brother Press ( then Philly QB coach) was in charge of trick play packages. It was his job to scour the college and pro ranks for trick plays. The Philly Special they ran in the Super Bowl he copied from the Bears. Like they’ve said it’s a group effort.

What coaching upgrade would take this job and not carry his own risks of ineptitude to the organization? There are no top tier head coaches that want this job. It's currently much better than when Marvin left no doubt, but it is still Cincinnati and the Brown family, and any prospective coach would be thinking that they could conceivably make it to the super bowl and get fired the next year.

Too long…. And they are 2 games out with the tiebreaker going against them, but yeah he needs to get someone who can call plays. He’s not looking too good when chase and burrow can’t bail him out! It’s hard for me to believe that someone with a .360 win percentage is a good coach!

Well here's how you tell he's a good coach. For the last decade, this place has been full of whining about "No playoff wins for 30 years" and "All I want to see is a playoff win." We have heard over and over how making the playoffs 5 years in a row meant nothing, regular season means nothing... it's all about the playoffs. Well, ZT is 1-0 in Wild Card playoff games. He's 1-0 in Divisional round playoff games. He's 1-0 in AFC Championship games. And he took us to the last seco ds of a Super Bowl in his 1st trip. Now all of a sudden we are 4-4 and people want him canned. Some people just can't be happy if they don't get what they want exactly when they want it. And don't give me any of the "Burrow is carrying him" crap, we had a shiming star out of USC named Palmer who was all that and a bag of chips coming out of college, and had Chad and TJ to throw to, and Marvin did squat with them. It took Dalton coming in to get us back into the playoffs on a regular basis. The complainers will always move the bar so they can continue to complain.
