Joe Burrow is no longer the really good QB with a great receiver corp but isn't as good as _____. The Receivers are no longer great only because they have Joe Burrow as their QB. The team is no longer succeeding because they are lucky. The coaches are no longer laughing stocks.
The talking heads are talking asking if JoeyB is the best QB in the NFL. The receivers are exceptional in their own rights. They are asking how Kansas City can beat Cincinnati not the other way around...shoot they're asking who can beat Cincinnati.

Teams aren't interviewing defensive coordinators anymore. The league has evolved. It's all about young, offensive minded head coaches. That's why Lou isn't getting HC interviews.
All 4 of the teams left this year have offensive coaching minds.
Look at the Bills. Mcdermott is a defensive minded head coach and it completely showed when we played them. The lack of structure, scheme, and play design in that offense was very aparent.

Burrow wasn't being discussed in that same tier as Mahomes and Allen because of elite measurables, not having multiple top-tier seasons like Mahomes and Allen have had, and also not having beaten the Bills yet.
Sunday was finally that time for everyone to see that Burrow and the Bengals can hang with every team in the AFC, including the Chiefs and Bills.
This doesn't mean that the Bengals will never lose again, but everyone now believes they can beat anyone as long as Burrow is out there.
Also, I am surprised Anarumo hasn't gotten calls. Maybe teams don't like his communication style similar to how Mike Zimmer took so long to get an opportunity.
What is definitely obvious now though is Anarumo is in the upper echelon of making halftime adjustments.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Will be shocked if Bengals can keep Lou much longer.
Dude is way too good not to get a HC offer.
All we can hope for is that maybe he falls through the cracks for one more year.

Many of those guys have previous HC experience though. Ryans is the hot young name of the bunch, might have a shot. But for the most part, teams aren’t looking for defensive HC anymore. And who can blame them with the way the league is? You need a star QB and a great offensive mind as HC or OC. Great OC’s don’t last long before they get HC jobs so if you want one you’ve gotta make him HC.

Hate to say it but there's a common theme in that list that's getting them interviews and it's not because they're defensive coaches. Interviews mean nothing if they're not getting hired.

Does Lou have an understudy right now? I am just thinking who would be next in line from in house that is familiar with his/our system.

If Lou was younger or a minority, I assure you he would have at least one interview for a HC position. Disagree and name call me all that you want but this is the new reality in the NFL so go ahead and turn a blind eye.

And I hate to say it but you're absolutely right. The NFL gives a lot of lip service to a lot of things but that's as far as it goes. All the Rooney Rule does is give people false hope by using them to create a false narrative, then hang them out to dry. I could say a lot more but it would (deservedly) get moved to another forum that nobody reads, because really, most of us don't care. But we should.

Lou's biggest problem is that he is 56 and has never been a head coach before. The no head coach experience is not a big deal . However, even 10 years ago his age wouldn't be such an issue but now the NFL is looking for a YOUNG hot head coach...whether they be an offensive coach or defensive coach

Kind of thought the same thing, but I don't know all those names.

Oddly enough, the Cardinals' list of candidates is almost all defensive coaches:
Head coach:
- Ejiro Evero, Broncos defensive coordinator (completed)
- Brian Flores, Steelers senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach (scheduled)
- Aaron Glenn, Lions defensive coordinator (requested)
- Vance Joseph, Cardinals defensive coordinator (completed)
- Sean Payton, former Saints head coach (scheduled)
- Dan Quinn, Cowboys defensive coordinator (scheduled)
- Frank Reich, former Colts head coach (completed)
- DeMeco Ryans, 49ers defensive coordinator (scheduled)
https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-coaching-gm-tracker-latest-news-interviews-developments-in-2023-hiring-cycle
Broncos intereviewed a fair number of defensive coaches too
- Jim Caldwell, former Lions and Colts head coach (completed)
- Ejiro Evero, Broncos defensive coordinator (completed)
- Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan head coach (staying at Michigan)
- Raheem Morris, Rams defensive coordinator (completed)
- Sean Payton, former Saints head coach (completed)
- Dan Quinn, Cowboys defensive coordinator (completed)
- DeMeco Ryans, 49ers defensive coordinator (completed)
- David Shaw, former Stanford University head coach (completed)
The other three are more split down the middle, but still plenty of defensive coaches getting interviews.
Ejiro Evero, DeMeco Ryans, Dan Quinn, Raheem Morris and Aaron Glenn got multiple head coaching interviews.
There's a chance some of those were merely to fulfill the Rooney Rule, but the fact remains defensive coordinators are getting interviews. It's surprising seeing these interviews being given to DCs but not to Lou.
I say let him stay under the radar. I'll happily keep him for as long as he's willing to stay.
