Bengals Re-Sign WR/PR Trent Taylor
#1
Not a massive signing, but the PR job is now full.

Only 6 catches, but #3 in punt return average and #4 in punt return yards.

Looks like Irwin, Morgan, and Taylor will all be back. They are all signed, anyway. Was really looking for a 4th WR who could actually get open.

He's more of a fair catcher than a punt returner. One of these days I want to see a Devin Hester type returning kicks or punts.

Strangely, it seems as if kickoffs are more returned than punts are. Felt like the opposite not too long ago. Still, Trent is top 4 in both average and total yardage. Generally speaking, he was very sure-handed, nice not to worry about a muff like the guy who cost us the game against San Francisco.
I feel like we're more likely to see "juice" from the kickoff returner than punt returner. Small sample size but I like what Trayveon did in small sample sizes, felt like he has the ability to break a long one off at any time. Still, if we can upgrade then do so.
Build a great wall up front to protect Burrow!

Tre Turner is 4.3 guy, potential UDFA a couple blocks away, did he return punts or kickoffs for UC?

Top 5 last year in punt return yards would say otherwise.

10th in PR average, but 7th in fair catches.

He's pretty good, but he does fair catch a fair amount. Punt returning was pretty much the only part of ST that didn't sorta stink last year. A ST bounceback to normal good form will be a big help.

The fair catch thing I almost wonder how it is related to our defense being more bend don't break. We let a lot of teams get to midfield or even across before we forced punts which resulted in shorter higher punts. I do know at times he probably could have gone but I think it's a bit of a combo issue in terms of fair catches.

Why I want Tank Dell in the draft. He is a better receiving option and a much more dynamic returner.

Right after I made the post I knew I was getting burned by the stats. I suppose my eye-test fails me miserably.

No, 3rd in punt return average.

The fair catch thing is not on Trent. If he is fair catching a lot, it is because his blockers are not getting out in front of the gunners and giving him time to make the catch and cut. Bengals fans were spoiled by watching PacMan.

Irwin gets open and has flypaper hands. He's not big on YAC, but he's a solid chain mover.

His tweet is wrong.

The only way he is 3rd in return average is if you need at least 30 punt returns to qualify. That would mean you've whittled down the pool of qualified returners to just 7 though. 3rd out of 7 is suddenly less impressive sounding.

I like Trent Taylor, sure hands which is what you need first out of your Punt Returner. He had that one bad fumble last year but made
up for it afterwards. Also want a WR behind our top 3 that can get open besides Irwin who I also like. Morgan is a good blocker but
brings nothing as a WR pretty much.

Anyways, nice signing with Taylor.
