MDD Sim. - What if a top CB falls?
#1
With the NFL being the passing league that it is and the threat of injury a team can never have too many high quality corners. Here is a quick glance at the Bengals CB roster as it stands right now:

1) Chido Awuzie - will be a FA after next season and coming off of a major injury. Of course myself like most would really like to see Chido back but you never know what will happen.
2) Mike Hilton - one of the best slot corners in the league. Signed thru '25.
3) Cam Taylor-Britt - Was a rookie last season that really came on down the stretch.
4) Sidney Jones - a talented young corner that has struggled with injuries but is on a 1 year deal.
5) Jalen Davis - good depth piece signed thru '25.
6/7) Allan George and Marvel Tell - two bottom of the roster players.

The Bengals could certainly stand to add to this room with some high quality talent so if a top corner should fall to them in this draft it is certainly a selection that they must consider. This is exactly what happened in this simulation and following is how it turned out.

Kelee Ringo - CB - Georgia - 6'2" 207

What isn't to like about Ringo? He has great size, length, and speed (4.36 - 40) for the position. Ringo has played in the SEC and has faced top talent week in and week out not to mention going against Ohio State in the playoffs where he performed extremely well. As with most every prospect making the move to the professional level there are things that still need to continue to grow and develop and this goes for Ringo as well. Ringo needs to produce every week at a consistently high level rather than good week and average week performances as has been the case at the collegiate level. Ringo is extremely physical and should not have an issue being out muscled by bigger receivers at the NFL level. While displaying good man coverage skills he seems to really excel in zone coverage which will fit the Bengals scheme well.

Steve Avila - G - TCU - 6'3.5" 332

You just do not see this kid get outpowered and he can play guard or center. Maybe the best G prospect in this draft. With that said there is some technique things that could be cleaned up such as pad level in run blocking but these should be coachable fixes. What he has that cannot be coached is raw physical power and instinct. Avila could challenge for the LG position on day 1. Following is a real honest assessment of his blocking strengths and weaknesses.

Tucker Kraft - TE - S. Dakota State - 6'5" 254

Kraft brings really high upside to the TE position for the Bengals and has a skillset that really fits well within the Bengals offense. He is a good blocker and is a natural pass catcher. Brings some similar traits as another Jackrabbit TE and that is Dallas Goedert and may be a better blocker at this point than Goedert was when he entered the draft. I look for Kraft to make an immediate impact on this offense and should pair very well with Irv Smith. He is big, he is physical, and he knows what to do once the ball is in his hands.

Wanya Morris - OT - Oklahoma - 6'5" 307

Wanya Morris is a very talented OT with the abilities to play either side. He was a five star recruit who selected Tennessee and showed real ability as a freshman. His play regressed a bit and Darnell Wright showed up on campus and eventually Morris made his way to Oklahoma where he found his previous form. At this point you must assume that Jonah will be the RT in '23 but it is a 1 year rental deal. Morris gives legit competition for the job in '24 and at the least becomes the top OT off the bench at either side.

Israel Abanikanda - RB - Pitt - 5'10" 216

His stock was rising toward the end of the season and through the combine where he did not workout as he was working through a hamstring tweak. However, he showed out at the Pitt Pro Day. He excelled in every drill and while he was down for an official 4.41 - 40 there was talk that on his second attempt so stop watches had him as fast as 4.27. Has shown on tape that he can be an every down back at the NFL level. Where Abanikanda will need to continue to grow is in pass protection where he puts in effort but must improve at keeping the rusher in front of him. When he gets in the open field he has a whole new gear and his sprinter speed shows.

Habakkuk Baldonado - DE - Pitt - 6'4" 251

Here the Bengals add a development edge rusher once again hitting the Pitt roster. Baldonado has displayed some real talent at the position but will need to hone and refine his pas rushing toolbox. He has already shown the ability to set the edge in the run game so will have he chance to see early snaps as a rookie. Baldonado should benefit from the coaching of Hobby and from being in a room with Hendrickson and Hubbard.

Hunter Luepke - RB/FB - N. Dakota State - 6'1" 235

Anyone that would attempt to pigeonhole Luepke as a FB prospect would be very wrong. Luepke showed his athletic ability on film and backed it up with an outstanding Pro Day where he posted a 36.5" vertical as well as a 4.56 - 40 time. Luepke did about everything for the Bison offense to include lead blocking, pass protection, receiver out of the backfield, and as a rusher. He is an extremely talented running back who could complete the transformation of the Bengals backfield allowing them to severe ties with Joe Mixon.
