I think this was a personal thing rather than a business thing. I remember when we sent him down to the minors for seemingly no reason and only called him back up due to injuries. He was better than the players who we brought up to replace him. There were rumblings that he was upset about his workload. That he felt he was more than just a LHP specialist. But every time they gave him an opportunity against RHP, he'd play horribly. So they may have mutually agreed to part ways rather than go through another season where the two sides disagree on the correct utilization of him.
With that said, ~3.0 MM (his estimated arbitration salary) for a LHP specialist is not a bad price, especially considering HOW good Senzel was in that realm (.347/.389/.619/1.009 in 118 ABs vs LHP). I suppose you can convince yourself that this was a small sample size phenomenon, since his career against LHP was much lower prior to 2023. If that is how the Reds feel, this move makes sense. But still, if they signed him and he regressed, he'd only cost 3 million dollars. A lot for you and me, but almost nothing for the Reds, especially with Votto and Moose finally off the payroll. I hope they plan to use that 3 million dollar wisely to improve this roster. Because, at this exact moment, we are down one dangerous weapon against left handers who had positional versatility.

I'm not sure I can agree because he's never played more than 110 games in a season over 5 years. He's talented and versatile, but I wouldn't label him a dangerous hitter. I'm guessing the 3 million doesn't go back into payroll. It's the Reds we're talking about.

That 3 million is going towards Phil's "St. Louis Cardinals themed" retirement yacht. He plans to float it down the Ohio River, past GABP, blaring an obnoxiously loud horn while flipping us the bird. It won't happen this year, the boat isn't quite finished and is dry docked somewhere out of state.
Ok, on a serious note...I was stoked for his ML debut. All the talk we heard about how he was a five tool athlete. Borderline generational talent. You know, the stuff that gets thrown around all too common these days. They did him no favors by making him a center fielder. If the plan was to trade off Suarez eventually, why do that?! If there was going to be an opening at 2B, why sign Moose to that ridiculous contract? Moose's slow, overweight ass had no business playing 2B, that position and those at bats should have went to Nick. Who knows, he may have figured out how to hit righties, being in the lineup more at 2B instead of injuring himself crashing into OF walls or diving at line drives in CF.

Sorry to see Senzel go, but there is a lot of young talent on the Reds. Like was mentioned before, Senzel was always injured or suffering Vertigo. Wish him luck in his future endeavors.

Mariners want more contact and less strikeouts so they non-tender Teoscar Hernandez and trade old friend Eugenio Suarez to the Diamondbacks for a minor league reliever and a backup catcher.
Kind of a fall from grace for Eugenio as he's now traded for a backup catcher with a career .210 average in 514 plate appearances spread over parts four seasons and a minor league reliever that made the opening roster in 2023, got sent down April 12th and stayed there putting up a 7.02 ERA.

Maybe that is what the Reds saw in Suarez. He was on the downside when they traded him to the Mariners.

I still have some Senzel rookie cards worth at least a few million each. I mistakenly thought my grandkids would be big time Reds fans when they were little and Senzel the star of the century.. C'mon Reds fans..pony up your million bucks..
