It's waaaay too early, that was thrown out there to throw other teams off the trail of where they are really aiming for their first pick.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

We’ll see…. Seems like Newton is picking up steam in relation to bengals media.

I like him too, but it reeks of classic Smoke Screen, to me.

I’ve been going back and forth on Newton and Murphy.

I usually don’t like the mock if I don’t get one of those two in the first round.

Especially now with Trent in town. I will not be mad if we wait on OT and instead go for the game wrecker DT

We had 2 3-techs in Hill and Carter, then signed Rankins, and now people think we're spending a 1st on another 3 tech?

Zack carter is nothing, a barely backup level… hill is in last year of deal and shouldn’t be resigned as he’s not great. We signed a 30 year old rankins to a 2 year contract. Yes we need a great 3-tech.

What would be a serious burn here is if we draft Newton and he becomes an OK DT and Rams draft Murphy at 19 who becomes Aaron Donald 2.0 for them
I would put all my chips on an OT here

Hill is in the final year of his contract, Rankins is going to be 30, and Carter sucks as of now. 3T is definitely a viable option at 18.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

With Rankins under contract for 2 years, any 3 tech you draft is going to be a rotation player for 2 years.  Then you look at RT and we'll need a starter in a year.  WR, we need an immediate starter, plus Higgins will be gone in a year.  It doesn't make sense, especially since the rookie will have a tough time earning snaps this year between Rankins and Hill.  And Hill actually grades pretty well.  Kind of feels like you're underselling him to try and make 3 tech seem like a bigger need than it is.

Besides which, they are going to try to get Murphy on the field more in pass rush situations, which means we'll have edge rushers kicking inside on obvious passing downs as well.

My gut feel is with the additions in FA and knowing how many offensive players are set to hit FA next year, the 1st round pick will be on offense.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Someone earlier today pointed out that if the Bengals wanted to part ways with Rankins after this season, they could do so pretty easily and save $10.5 mill in cap next offseason.
But if he's playing well, may as well keep him for $12.5 mill.

So a new 3T for 2024-2025 is more of a luxury, not a dire need with the ability to have Rankins through 2025.

We rotate DL. Rankins was our big free agent addition. He will rotate. Reader was our be free agency loss. He rotated.

We play two DTs most of the time. One of them doesn’t have to be a fat guy who can’t move

Not necessarily…. Do you think hill is gonna be a rotational player now? Or that rankings is gonna play every snap? Rankins is a pass rush specialist type of DT. Rankins played less than 600 snaps last year… a 3-tech this year would be a rotational yes, but next year would be a starter, or at least be getting starter level snaps… BJ hill played almost 800 snaps which is insane…. You would like at LEAST a 3 DT rotation played 650-700 snaps. In this scenario Newton would be the 3 down DT, and rankins would play a lot at the other DT spot. Also I believe we tag Higgins next year too. Why do y’all think rankins isn’t gonna decline? Much more faith in him than I have.

I tend to believe that wide receiver Brian Thomas JR could end up being the actual 1st round pick made by the Bengals.

He can be Tyler Boyd's replacement in 2024 with the possibility to become TEE's replacement in 2025.

Offensive Tackles like Fuaga & Latham will probably be gone before the Bengals pick and Zac may want

3 explosive receivers for his System.

Just my guess...

Brian Thomas Jr  6 foot 3 inches tall 209 pounds  4.33 forty  2023 stats at LSU  68 catches 1,177 yards 17 tds 17.3 yards per catch

I like this selection based on who is available. I like Newton more than Murphy. And I think he could very well be the BPA here.

If not Newton or Murphy, I'd be looking at OT. But the OTs on the board probably need a bit of development.
That said, I'd be looking at Newton, Murphy, or Mims in this scenario. A corner or edge definitely fit into the conversation as well.

I'd love to have a stacked Dline rotation and Newton would certainly add to it.

I wouldn't be against going DT in the second as well and picking up Sweat.

Imagine having (4) solid DTs to rotate. You could run more 3-4 looks on running downs and the depth will keep the pass rush and run D fresh.
Plus, you have these (2) rookie DTs for 4-5 years--and don't have to re-sign Rankins/Hill.

In the 3rd round you can target Oline, Corner, and WR in this scenario.

I'd feel great about this option. But I'd certainly feel good if you draft Newton, then come back and have a great OT or C prospect in the 2nd that you take. Then you could go after a NT in the mid rounds if he's there.

I'd certainly be fine with going OT, DT with the first two picks but I believe in the BPA philosophy. Taking Newton here would certainly follow that philosophy.

I mainly want the following positions addressed (not necessarily in order):
RT
WR
TE
NT
CB (we could argue depth vs needing an immediate starter, but I lean toward "good depth who could become starter if Turner/Hill falters this year")
With the 3rd round comp pick, Bengals can address all 5 of these in the first 4 rounds. And I pretty much lose hope of finding an eventual starter-caliber guy after the 4th round.

As long as the Bengals can come away with good players at these positions and 2-3 can be ready by next year to start and perform solid-or-better, I'm good with a pass rushing IDL too.
Bengals have a lot of stopgaps who are set to hit FA after this season and need quality guys ready to take the reins. Otherwise, they'll have to dip into FA again, which gets costly over time.
Look at what all they've had to do on the OL because they've whiffed on so many guys in the past 5 years in the drafts.
