Welcome Jermaine Burton!
I mean, Binns was an UDFA out of UC. Burton is a 3rd rounder that played at Georgia and Alabama. Yes, he did most of his damage against 2’s & 3’s this preseason, but the pedigree is there. It’s not like hyping up some total long shot.

Yes, its much different situation.  If you cut Burton you immediately have several teams putting in a waiver claim.  Even Binns had the Dolphins claim him off waivers.  But I dont get the Binns obsession by a couple of our fans.  He played in 8 games for the Bengals, had 18 receptions with 1 TD and 210 yards for almost 12 yards per reception.  There have been far worse WRs out there.

It's not 100% about low production. A lot of it is all the hype behind him during camp and then no production by Binns

No one is cutting Jermaine Burton. But it's safe to assume JB hasn't impressed in TC. When dude was drafted it was asserted he was going to take on JaMarr's role while JC moved into the slot. It now appears he's #6 receiving option at best.

Looking at around a 5000 yard season, lead league in tds.

Mixon added 3 tds on the ground.

From a PPG basis that comes out To just around 25 PPG, a little less.  Would have been good for 7th best overall.

Long story short, it was a bad year all around from the word go.  Injuries derailed the season in July.

New year, different outcome.

What would the numbers be like if you did the same for EVERY team's best 4 game stretch of the season and not just the Bengals?

Because the Bears had a 4 game stretch where they scored 27.75 ppg. But were 21.2 ppg on the season.
The Browns had a 4 game stretch where they scored 31 ppg. But were 23.3 ppg on the season.
Even the pathetic Panthers had a 4 game stretch where they scored 21.25 points per game instead of their season total of 13.9 ppg.

If we just take 4 games and expand it to a season Flacco would have crushed Burrow in yards (5,788) and TDs (47).
Justin Fields would also throw 42 TDs, which would be more than Burrow.
Sam Howell would throw for 5,482 yards and 38 TDs with a 68.8% completion.
Russell Wilson would have thrown 38 TDs, too with the same 9:2 ratio as Burrow.

Much like a couple years ago when the story was "if they just won the 1-score games!" when if everyone won every 1-score game that year there would have only been 2 teams left with a losing record at 7-9. If you take everyone's best 4-game stretch of a season, the vast majority of players would have absurd numbers.

We really don't know what Burton is going to do tbh. I have high hopes for him personally, but they haven't been playing him that much. Maybe they're trying to humble him or something, or maybe he's just not playing that well in camp. No one really knows other than the coaching staff, and it's just a guess until the season starts.

The bengals scored 26.1 and 27.1 ppg in the 2022 and 2021 seasons. So I guess with a healthy burrow you can expect a top scoring offense. I believe the “best” 4 game stretch last year was simply our baseline. We didn’t get to see the outlier “best” 4 game stretch due to injuries.

I've taken a ton of Burton in my Draft Kings Best Balls this year... as a Bengals fan and as a gambler I'm disappointed in hearing about his struggles.

Sounds like he isn't getting on the field unless there is some injuries.

Hopefully he takes this year as a learning lesson on how to be a professional and with Higgins likely gone next season he jumps into that #2 spot.

How has he struggled? Just because he isn't the outright #3 right now and the coaches are testing him?

All Jermaine Burton did was be our best offensive player in the Preseason.

To further expand on this, it's really late draft pick/CFA/waiver claim+insane hype+poor production=Binns comparisons.

It's kind of an offshoot of the fact that the majority of  board members prefer a "trenches first" team building philosophy, which is fine, but then fall back on "I think X we took in the 6th round last year is going to be a plus starter" as a way to defend not addressing skill positions on offense in their mock off-seasons and drafts.  Since it's kind of a yearly thing, it falls back to Binns comparisons.

Ironically, I don't recall us being very WR poor during Binns' brief tenure.  He just got overhyped because he was a UC guy, imo.

Other guys may just be playing better at this point in time, too.  It's not necessarily that he practices poorly.

Also, a rookie's role in week 17 can be a lot different than his role in Week 1.

Probably right, also Iosivas would be the dude to compare to Binns and I think Iosivas will be much better than him.

He's sleeping during meetings evidently.

Has nothing to do with his performance it's the little things at practice that he's screwing up on.

That has not been confirmed to be in Cincinnati. There’s speculation it could have happened in the ST room, but I find it pretty unlikely this coaching staff (or other players) would leak it to Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit of all people. It might be something from his college days.

Hope your right... I've been a big fan for a while now. I know the WR room is deep though regardless.

Herbie lives in Cincy. I bet he heard it from someone with the Bengals. I don’t think the comment if said to Al & Herbie was mean spirited. Probably more that he’s a knot head and just needs to mature. Saban told us that on draft night. And knot head and hard worker can be mutually exclusive. Saban said in the field he was great.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Binns played in 8 games his rookie season, had 18 catches for 210 yards which averages to 11.7 yards per reception.

Iosivas played in 16 games his rookie season, had 15 catches for 116 yards which averages to 7.7 yards per reception.

The big difference is Binns had 1 TD in those 8 game, Iosivas had 4 in his 16 games.

We can improve this comparison a little bit. Instead of using games played, we can use the number of routes each receiver ran. Despite playing in only eight games, Binns actually ran more routes (190) than Iosivas did (152). Binns was more productive on a per route basis but Iosivas was able to capitalize in the redzone.
