11.3 YPC for a TE is good, but a 62% career catch % isn't. His career YPT is actually only .1 higher than Hayden Hurst's. Which is about what I expect from Gesicki. Do I think he can be productive in the offense? Yes. But like Hurst, he really is a backup level TE that the system and players around him will make look better than he really is.

I disagree, no way Gesicki is a backup level TE as far as a pass catcher. The only time he was targeted a lot was on the Fins and he had over
1,000 yards something we haven't ever had around here pretty sure. Dude is big, fast and can run routes like a WR. Eifert was the last TE we
had around here with this talent.
As much as a liked Hayden Hurst with us, he wasn't as fast as Gesicki or as talented as a Receiver. If Gesicki stays healthy this year I expect
him to be the most productive pass catching TE we have had in a long damn time.
Burrow has never had this talented of a TE that can play in the Slot IMO.

Gesicki's career high is 780 yards on 112 targets. He's never been close to a 1000 yard receiver.

If he was this bonafide offensive weapon and that valuable to an offense, he wouldn't be on his 3rd team in three years, playing for $1.5M, and have a combined 600 receiving yards the last 2 years.

Gesicki has had an about average TE career thus far, nothing spectacular but not awful either. I don't know enough about who he's had throwing him the ball or what offenses he's been in to say much about that.
What I do know is that now I wouldn't be shocked if he has his best season thus far with Joe Burrow as his QB. Question now is how much will the TE position be featured in this offense with all the other weapons??
I'll say middle of the road.

Man, could of swore someone on here said he had 1,000 yards one season with the Phins, my bad.
Still, if Gesicki can stay healthy I think he has his best season here with Joe Burrow and plays more like a starter and not a backup like you
said. There was a reason both Hurst and Gesicki were taken as early as they were and I think of the two, Gesicki is the more talented pass
catching TE. Bigger, faster etc.

He was on the terrible Patriots Offense for heck sake.
Probably the worst QB play of any team over that time.

Gesicki has had terrible QB's throwing him the ball his entire career. I think both him and Burrow could do some special things.
Burrow hasn't had any great TE's either. If Tee keeps being banged up and none of the Slot WR's play great and we keep Chase on the
outside the majority of the time Gesicki could have a much better than a middle of the road season, we will see, lot's of ifs. All I know is
that Pitcher said we had the most talent at WR which is why we were in the 3 WR sets so much. Hardly any talent at TE.
We are much more talented at TE this year even if it is still an unknown with these guys.

Mike Gesicki is more like CJ than Hurst or Hudson. Big long guy that likes straight lines and plays above the rim but won't create separation and not really a hand in rhe dirt H-Back let alone a Y.

Look I just think if Joe can make Tanner Hudson look Good, Gesicki will look Very Good, at minimum.

How fun would it be to see Hudson surprise everyone and emerge as the TE1 this year?
I'm admittedly a Hudson stan lol
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Not really sure if you were implying Hudson is bad, but Imma defend him anyway.
Hudson produced 39 receptions for 352 yards on just 240 receiving snaps.
Compare that to Uzomah, who played 484 rec snaps for CIN in 2021 but only 493 yards.
Compare that to Hurst, who played 411 rec snaps for CIN in 2022 but only 414 yards.
It's never going to be apples to apples, but hypothetically, if Hudson had the same number of rec snaps as Hurst did, he could have put up around 600 yards. Around 700 yards if same as Uzomah did.
While no one would call Hudson a good run blocker (although he actually did ok last year in his limited snaps), he was quite satisfactory as a receiver.
If he had put up 600-700 yards, people would be saying he should be the long-term starter.
Not saying he's some upper-tier guy, but he seemed to be at least about the same caliber of receiver as the likes of Uzomah or Hurst, which are mid-tier.

Hudson likely benefitted from being seen as a scrub and not getting the defensive attention that normal TE1's would get. Kind of like how a bench RB having a higher YPC than the starter sometimes because he in not expected to get the ball when he is in the game.
I think he is a solid back up, but nothing more.

Possibly.
I tend to put it more to the defense was worrying about Chase, Higgins, and Boyd.
While TE might get more of a focus by the defense this year with Boyd gone, it still won't be the focal point of defending because of Chase and Higgins.

To each of you I would say that Gesicki's career obviously hasn't been Kelce level (he isn't a "complete" TE in that way). He is more of a big slot wr - which the Bengals have NEVER really had at #1 on the TE depth chart in the sense of the player leaning so heavily in that way.
It's really tough to gauge exactly what to expect from him. The role he's filling in this offense is NOT anything we've ever had in Cincy, with Burrow, Taylor... even Carson/Andy, & Marvin.
As far as his career is concerned, to me at least, it's tough to judge that fairly. He had 3 different starting QBs in his first 3 seasons in Miami (Tanny, Fitzpatrick, rookie Tua). Multiple head coaches & multiple offenses - I think he has had a new OC &/or had to learn a new offense EVERY year of his career thus far.
- To me, it's perfect reasonable to expect bigger plays from Gesicki at the TE position than Boyd put together from the slot over the course of an entire season. I'm not entirely convinced that Gesicki's value is NOT in exceeding Boyd, Hurst, or even Uzomah's total numbers, but instead by exceeding their big plays when needed. Like, when the other team decides to take Chase & Higgins away, is Gesicki up to making them pay in those moments the Bengals need a first down on 3rd & long, a chunk play down the seam, or a TD on 3rd & 14 in the red zone. Or, and this is tougher to be able to discern or see in a game just because of the TV angles.... Gesicki being threatening enough to where the defense has to pay attention or respect him enough that the other players have an easier time. late in the season has Gesicki proven dangerous enough that a down the seam or sideline route by him going to allow Burton, Brown, Moss, or Irwin a big catch and run underneath to get into FG range at the end of a half or game?
I guess what I'm saying is that maybe it's too simple to look at his career so far due to the tough circumstances of being in an an org like the Dolphins while they were going through constant turmoil and maybe we, as Bengals fans, should look at Gesicki and try to define ways that we think would make him a really valuable asset in THIS offense.

Of course I agree with a lot of what you say here PDub80. I think Gesicki is the perfect fit in this Offense with Joe Burrow at the helm.

We have an unproven TE room. I ranked them in the second worst group as we don't have a proven TE that is dual threat, one that is a great blocker and a great receiver.
2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Yes, Erick All might not even play this season for all we know which is why I didn't really like the pick at the time and wanted a RB instead.
Still, if he does play All is really talented, reminds me of Gresham in how he is really hard to tackle but much faster than Gresham.

Hopefully Drew Sample helps out the TE's we now have with blocking. We actually have some really good pass catchers now with Gesicki, All,
Hudson and McLachlan. All looks like the one who could be the best blocker of the bunch though.
