I don’t get it. Aren’t these things pretty much predetermined?

A lot of it is but there are some things that are still negotiated like the payment schedule for the signing bonus.

There's language in the contract and dates of when payments happen that can be negotiated, but mostly it should be pretty set. One of the Bosas had a drawn out holdout over language in their contract.

Or it could be Mims just doesn't want to come here? Not sure why that would be, but also not sure why he wouldn't be signed. Theoretically a player can just hold out the entire year and re-enter the draft for 2025, but I can't imagine he'd be drafted higher after sitting out a year so the only thing he could potentially get is a different location.

He showed up to OTAs, though, so I don't get it.

I don’t think it’s that. He already seems pretty tight with Orlando. Probably the language of the contract like you said.

Schefter just reported he signed.

The last unsigned 2024 draft pick is now done: Cincinnati Bengals No. 18 overall pick Amarius Mims signed his four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $15.37 million that includes a $7.99 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.

"Better send those refunds..."

Me too.... must've been what others said here, something in the contract language.

I wasn't worried at all: since 2011, when have we not had our 1st rounder ready for camp?

Agreed.  I wasn't concerned at all.  I do wonder what they were quibbling about.

I have no clue what took so long, but Mims signed his deal!

Quote:Just in the knick of time, when it looked like we may be looking down the barrel of Andre Smith 2.0, the last domino fell. The Cincinnati Bengals have officially signed their first-round pick, Amarius Mims. He is the final rookie draft pick to sign his deal.

According to Spotrac, the contract is a four-year, $15.37 million deal, inked early on Monday morning. It includes a $7.99 million fifth-year option.

Mims is expected to be the “sixth-man” for the offensive line. While Trent Brown was away during minicamp, Mims took first-team snaps. Now that Brown will be available for training camp, which begins on Wednesday, Mims is expected to be a backup, should the need arise. Considering Brown’s injury history, the odds are good it will.

Then, in 2025, he takes the reins.

Now fans can breath a sign of relief this gloomy Monday morning as the team was able to jump over this last herdal before the unofficial official beginning of the season.

With the rookie scale and holdouts not being an issue anymore, I was getting kind of worried, but let's hope that it was just technicalities and there was no playing hard ball.

Hopefully he can get in some good work in the offseason so we're all set on the line behind Brown.

WHO-DEY!

I think he was simply waiting for no. 16 to be signed and see what he got.
The guy was just signed the day before.
