^This^

I'm hoping they can somehow, someway break the trend and pick somebody to help out our putrid D. But I don't think whether it's pick 12 or 16 is gonna be that big a difference.

No one should have expected the Bengals to lose to bad teams. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase raise the floor of the entire roster add in Tee Higgins and now Chase Brown and they have one of the best offenses in the NFL. It's not crazy to expect them to win out go 9-8 and be the best of the worst just like last year.

... just a terrible defense. Lost, undisciplined, and lacking overall speed.

Wish I could believe that. I've once again lost what little faith I had in the leadership of this franchise. It wouldn't surprise me to roll into next year with now major changes to the defense. It was all injury related you know.....

They're only hurting the Bengals draft position!

Someone talk me off the ledge and give me some positive things about the last 2 weeks.

I don't get this perspective. You play to win every game. If we had coaches throwing the game when our playoff hopes were still alive for a better draft pick next year, I would want them fired immediately. Now, I don't mind the opinion that once out of the hunt we get some young guys' experience, but you still play to win every down, every game.

Except for that time, back in October when Chase Brown was scolded for scoring late in the 4th qtr, rather than "dying" inside the 5.

I also feel like losing would be good to help draft positioning but then once the game starts I want them to win. Can’t root against them even when it “helps” and I am not going to be mad about them winning.

They need to go DL in the first unless Starks is there. They could use a safety and I think he’s good enough to help with coverage and the pass rush.
I am not one who thinks they need to draft a CB early. Both starting CBs are out for the year plus you would hope guys like Newton will improve with experience and CTB gets back to his level of play from last year. They have spent a ton of draft stock in the CBs so there’s talent there.

you plays to win and let the future take care of itself..your logical brain is incorrect.....

Is it can't draft or can't develop?

NFL coaches don't do much player development. They simply don't get the time with the players on the field to do it. The majority of field time for players in OTAs and Training Camp is installs.

It's not a Dead-Cat Bounce because the Bengals still have a shot at the playoffs with three games to play: Colts and Dolphins lose 1 game of the next three, Broncos lose all three (one against the Bengals, one against KC, and one against the Chargers), and the Bengals win out (Browns, Broncos, and Steelers -- who may be sitting their starters for the last game). This is actually possible. And if the Bengals get in the playoffs, anything is possible.

Even if they were out of it, we have three players leading their positions: Burrow, Chase, and Hendrickson. It's just flat-out joy to watch them play football and root for them to lead the league.

And the Bengals have drafted high throughout their history and done generally very poor at it. Look at the draft where they selected John Ross and who they passed on that year (2017). Steelers have had 21 straight non-losing season, so they generally draft late, and still are leading the division this year, and draft well (they took TJ Watt with the 30th pick in the draft the Bengals selected Ross 9th). The Chiefs always draft late and find gems. So, after over 50 years of rooting for the Bengals, its hard to start look forward to the draft in place of the current enjoyment of the games.

The Bengals draft position in the 2025 draft is basically at the bottom of the possible reasons that could turn this defense around quickly, at least imo.

They're only hurting the Bengals draft position!

Someone talk me off the ledge and give me some positive things about the last 2 weeks.

I have entered both of these games with the attitude that I don't really care if we win or lose, I just want to eat pizza and be entertained.

And I've been entertained in both games.

I think if our offense sputtered to a halt and we lost out, I would be more frustrated than if we won out due to having an elite offense (The defense is what it is, and that is "it's bad") even though winning out likely results in the #18 pick and missing the playoffs.

The best case scenario would be that our offense remains elite, but our defense is so hilariously bad that they keep blowing the game in the last minute, to secure a top 10 pick while maintaining our positive outlook on the offense. But that's probably not realistic with the teams we're playing to close out the season.

This team doesn't need a top 10 pick to compete in the NFL next season. It would be nice. But this is a championship caliber offense. We just need to make some smart acquisitions on defense in free agency (I.E. No more Sheldon Rankins signings. Keep your DJ Readers, Bengals) and focus our draft on the defense.

This is not 2019, where meaningless wins could have derailed our entire franchise (if we beat Miami and missed out on Joe Burrow, for example). We are just trying to field an average to slightly below average defense and we'll be 11-3 at this same time point in 2025. Don't fret the wins. Just enjoy the ride and watch Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase do their magic.

But I disagree heavily. It's important to see this team keep fighting, playing hard, and winning. You never want to see a locker room "lost".

And the playoffs aren't really that wild of a thing right now. Three straight losses from Denver (us playing them helps control that) and we are most likely in. I've seen MUCH crazier stuff happen.

This.   It's important to them to keep growing, winning and developing the never say die mindset.  Being mentally tough is something you develop.   Seeing Burrow on the sidelines pissed off because we did not play up to snuff gives me more hope than a higher draft pick.

The benefit you speak of is for the Brown family, not having to fire any coaches or spend anymore money because they're this close.

I feel that until the Bengals add a significant number of scouts and a real GM..no matter how high they draft it will not turn out that great.."they have spent a ton of draft stock stock in CBs" and none of them are that great...But the good news.... Mike Brown wants to keep this team in Cincinnati and turn over the reins to his daughter and granddaughter..with the lease negotiations due soon..or already beginning..and with Joe Burrows insights and leadership of this team...we may see some definitive changes where it really counts..I dont care who they draft or how high...when we get some more scouts to make better player evaluations..sand this off-season replace Lou and that offensive line coach....I will feel better..and it may just happen
