I want a physical back next year
#1
I know we have a bunch of weaknesses. Chase Brown is a nice RB to keep in a committee but we need a physical short yardage back to compliment him. I want 3rd and 1 or 2 to become a strength instead of a weakness. Even more important to have this when Zac is constantly making questionable 4th down decisions.

I feel this is more on the interior OL than on any RB

A hard nosed guard will help with the short yardage situations. Don’t need another RB when they’re a pass dominant team with Brown and Herbert

Next year's road games are brutal.

Gonna need a better defense if they want to finish with 10 wins

Yeah. I don't think back is the issue in short yardage.

I agree with the others saying our running between the tackles is more of an IOL issue than RB. Having said that I wouldn't be against a very late round bruiser back pick just to see what he could bring to the table?

Upgrade the IOL, the OL Coach, the OC, and add a FB and any competent RB will do.

I am not opposed to adding a FB who is a short yardage banger as well. Plus the position is under-valued in the NFL and a starter quality FB can be had with a later round pick.

If they luck out and he can catch, the Bengals could go light at TE for the roster spot.

I said it before, and will say it again. The Bengals do not need a great back like Corey Dillon, they just need a plugger who can fall forward, like Cedric Benson or Rudi Johnson.

Finally, no KC on our schedule

I like Herbert who is a physical back and I completely agree with others that the OL, specifically the interior needs to be upgraded
first along with the OL coach and the scheme to really upgrade the running game. That being said, I would love a physical RB to
replace Trayveon that still has speed. Coleman from Washington is a guy we could get in the mid rounds. Bowling ball with speed.

That is a brutal schedule, home or on the road. 7 games against weak teams from this season.

I was thinking about this the other day, we need something like Bettis. We do not run enough to be concerned primarily about a RB as a pure runner. We need a big dude who can block and catch a ball in the flat. Maybe if we had someone like that we could run on 4th and 3 and pick it up.

If we enter next season with Brown and Herbert then perhaps the draft in rounds 3 to 5 could provide the physical back some seek?

I actually think play calling is impacted by the lack of success running the ball in short yardage situations plus ZT seems to be giving Burrow more decision making on play calling and passing on short yardage but I also believe we have lacked a pounding back while our division foes seem to always have one on their roster.

Absolutely. Big physical back that can wear a defense down late in the game to convert those third and fourth and shorts. I love Chase and he's a great back with a very bright future but he goes down when he is hit.

A big back can fall forward and put some punishment on a defense and when you add up falling forward and getting that extra yard or yard and a half sometimes that makes all the difference as it wears down a defense.

please stop with this "physical back" nonsense  ..I doubt many linebackers look forward to tackling Brown when he's up to speed

we must be watching different teams..Brown is a 210lb running back ..that is a physical back..and unlike Mixon does not go down with first contact..we have no issues @ RB..we need to address the interior offensive line

I'm a big Hampton fan.
