Reds Rumblings
#1
The Reds are reportedly one of 5 teams that have offered Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim (who turns 26 next month) a contract. The others are the Blue Jays, Padres, Angels and Mariners. He has until Friday to make a decision.

Have no idea how legit this is though, as the original source is a Korean sports show https://x.com/psuh89/status/1874136204624720362 ...but it does follow recent reports that they were interested in another infielder, Gleyber Torres.

---

The rumors about Nick Pivetta are making the rounds again, which makes me think there may be something there, and there could be a trade being worked on that involves one of the current starters? It's the only any interest in Pivetta would make sense.

The Reds are always "interested" in people, but ultimately it always turns out to cost too much in money or prospects. Pretty sure that is Krall's job to make sure the Reds look like they're trying so ownership can point to all those rumors.

Barring new ownership with deeper pockets and more interest in winning than employing family and friends, our only hope is the impending lockout in the '26-'27 offseason that will hopefully result in a massively changed financial landscape for the league with payroll caps and equally importantly payroll floors.

Yes, the hot stove league used to be more fun when the Reds actually acquired talent to be excited about.

Jokes aside, I believe he's viewed as a glove-first no-power utilityman in MLB. So basically Espinal, and we already have Espinal on our roster.

He got less than expected. 3yr/$12.5m... with a 2-year option to make it potentially 5yr/$22m.

It continues to amaze me though that the Dodgers just keep spending and spending. It must be disheartening to be the GM of a big league team and watching how their GM out-spends most.

I was going to chime in on this a few days ago, but refrained. One thing about the Asian players is that they tend to sign in cities where there is a sizable Asian population. Seems to be the trend anyways. It makes sense for them to lean towards this. Basically the west coast and NYC.

Yeah, it doesn't shock me to see an Asian player prefer an East or West coast team as opposed to a Midwest market.

Man, I love baseball.  Nothing better than getting home from work on a Friday, grabbing a beer, and starting my weekend with a Reds game on TV.

All the same, what cannot continue, won't.

Baseball is cannibalizing itself.  Dodgers get pick of the litter.  Then Mets/Yanks, then a few other also rans, then everyone else.  Maybe Houston or Boston or a Chicago team when they aren't crying broke.  After everyone else has had a turn, then you get some mid-level pretenders sifting thru the dregs.

When that's done, and the competition for talent has ended, you get the Castellini Reds coming in to sop up the spoiled beer and urine of MLB free agency.

I hope this sport shuts down for two years.  These grifters need a real lesson in how treating customers like crap can effect your business.

It's all a huge heartstrings-pulling scam.  Nostalgia is the constant, but people with nostalgia for the greatness of this team are fewer every year.....

I've said this a million times, and I will say it a million more times.  NFL has TV Revenue Sharing,  MLB does NOT... So Cincinnati has more of a chance to compete in NFL than in MLB.....New York and LA type cities will ALWAYS have more MONEY than Cincinnati in MLB  Especially since the 1994 No Word Series Players Strike.

I like Castallini bringing back Voting on Reds Hall of Fame and the great Reds Hall of Fame he built.  Schott stopped the Reds Hall of Fame and Lindner didn't help.  Castallini brought back Reds Hall Of Fame and made it maybe The Best Team Hall of Fame in MLB.  Castallini also took the ugly generic Great American Ball Park of Lindner, and upgraded it to be a very nice ball park for The Fans.

I like Castallini. I do NOT blame him for how MLB is set up for the Rich of New York and LA type teams and the hell with small markets like Cincinnati.  Now the NFL has TV Revenue Sharing, so The Bengals owners are rolling in the money.  Not the care in MLB, and often Reds Owners LOSE MONEY in small market Cincinnati.

Now if Reds had a New Owner, good chance they would move The Reds out of Cincinnati to a larger market area.  San Antonio, Montreal, Mexico City.  Moving Reds out of Cincinnati may not mean much to so many on Bengals Board far from Cincy, but it would be the end of the first ever Pro Baseball team for Fans in Cincy area.

Castallini has kept The Reds in Cincinnati, when moving the team would have been more Money.  He has upgraded ugly generic GABP into a very nice Ball Park, and he has added Reds Hall of Fame and statues and honored Reds Players who were not honored as Scott and Lindner stopped Hall of Fame Voting.

Castallini had a good team before 2020 covid killed baseball.  Oh, a short season of cardboard fans.  Castallini in 2023 and 2024 is just starting to stop losing MONEY from covid and turn a profit with Reds.  Covid really made moving Reds out of Cincinnati hard for Castallini to turn down, but he kept the Reds in Cincy even if he lost money dong it.

Castallini has now brought in Terry Francona.  The Reds have some money in bank for first time since 2020 covid World Pandemic.  Castalini had no choice but to dump payroll of his good team due to the MONEY lost due to 2020 covid.  However he kept Reds in Cincinnati.  Reds grabbed Minor League Players in 2020 covid when due to no Minors most teams were dumping Minor League Players.  Reds and Tampa Rays grabbed up a ton of young players in 2020 this way.  So Yes, Reds dumped payroll, but added a ton of Minor League Furures,  Now it is 5 years later, Reds bring in Terry Francona to develop these young players and Reds still in Cincinnati.  Like the 1930's Great Depression, through 2020 Covid, The Reds got through it and stayed in Cincinnati.

So some of you so negative, I say hang in there.  Covid is over.  Schools are Back.  Jobs are Back.  People fill Stadiums again.  I say get ready for Terry Francona and the 2025 Reds, and be glad Castallini did what it took to keep The Reds in Cincinnati....New York and LA teams had the Super Money to cover Covid, but not small town Cincinnati. BUT CINCINNATI IS BACK, BABY.

Do you know The Reds lost about 20 or so close games due to stupid baserunning and on defense throwing to the wrong man.  If Francona is like Sparky Anderson and eliminates all the Reds mental mistakes, right there the Reds win 10 to 20 more games  Like Dave Bristol, Bell let them get by with too many Mental Mistakes. Physical Mistakes will happen, but there is no excuse for Mental Mistakes.  Get their heads out of their butts, and play smarter baseball, and Reds win 10 to 20 more games right there.
