SI's Bengals Financial Breakdown
#21
(Yesterday, 11:46 AM)SunsetBengal Wrote: The problem lies in that if you cut Pratt, you're still looking at $2.3M in dead money, is Wagner really worth $9M to you at his age? Now, if they were looking to lock up Zack Baun for 4 years, it might be worth eating that dead money.

What does “at his age” have anything to do with? At 34 he was a top 5 LB. He transformed the worst defense last year, to respectable this year. On a 2 year deal, yes, he is worth $9m.

Wonder what JAX would need to get Travis Etienne in a trade.

4th or 5th rounder? He is in his last year of his rookie deal Only cost 2M more than Moss in 25

Don't bite me for bringing up his age, most on here will be quick to point out that the Bengals don't like paying older players. His estimated market value is $6.5M, then when you account for the dead cap for cutting Pratt, you end up at $9M for ONE year. If you want him for 2 years, it's likely going to cost the team $15.5M.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

And he is in the top 1% of LB at his age. If we are talking about 2025 and 26 only, he is well worth it.

If the Bengals are going to eat some dead cap and invest in a major upgrade at LB, please let it be for Zack Baun.

Yeah, we all love Bobby Wagner, dude is an all time great. But age should eventually catch up to him and he isn't a reality based on what the
Bengals do. Zach Baun is very unrealistic too as he would be a top Linebacker, but damn this guy is good and would really improve the Defense
with him and Logan on the field at the same time healthy.

Bobby Wagner would be a reality if Marv was still the HC though... Hilarious

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

If the bengals want to “win now”, then maybe they need to rethink the strategy. Not everyone ages the same and Wagner, while older, would be such a huge addition to the 2025 bengals team. It isn’t even quantifiable.

Beyond on field production, he would bring instant leadership. Literally he would be the Joe burrow equivalent on the defense.

Guys like Von Miller and Travis Kelce bring way more than just production. And Wagner is still playing at a higher level than both of them.

Baun is unrealistic, but depending on what the bengals want to do, Wagner and a new DC alone would improve this unit to middle of the pack, without any other additions.

The question is, do we care about 2028, or 2025? After the season the bengals just had, it might be time to do something different.

It’s likely a moot point, I doubt Washington lets him leave.

I never said sign Baun over Howard, in a perfect world the Bengals add both of them.

Definitely get everything you say here Bengalbug. Would be nice if we made exceptions with certain players, some dudes just put in the
work to last younger than others, Bobby Wagner is one of them and he is a great leader as you say. Also doubt Washington lets Bobby
leave. Bobby would probably be a great get on a 1 year or 2 year deal if he does test FA though, you are correct.

Just doubt we make the exception with what we have seen recently.

For Me: We have to cut some dead weight to get better. It's a fairly easy process for me, based on this year's results:

Cuts:

1) Rankins
2) Hubbard- or resign at a much cheaper rate.
3) Cappa
4) Moss

-these cuts alone add @ 30 million to the cap.

Resign:

1) TEE
2) Geisicki
3) Hilton
4) Ford
5) Ossai
6) Herbert

- all good role players, besides Tee who is a game changer. then draft heavily on the trenches and backfill with solid FA's (G, DE, DL)

Those are all great, no brainer moves. You still haven't brought in anyone from outside to fill any of the voids. Keep in mind that the draft is only a crap shoot, you at least need a vested veteran to fill for example, Cappa's spot. Don't say Ford, because then you're created another hole to fill. We only have 6 draft picks, and only half of those are in the top 100 prospects...

Ok for the FA's, I look for solid additions here to improve the overall depth of this team.

additions:

1) Will Fries- RG (INDY)- young guy with solid results.

2) Poona Ford- DT (LAC) / Tim Settle DT (HOU) - solid interior DT good pressure guys pick 1.

3) K' Laivon Chaisson DE/Edge (LV)- young guy on the edge replaces Murphy on 3rd down packages

4) Jeremy Chinn SS (WSH) -young box safety to allow Stone to be more of a FS hawk ala his role with Baltimore.

Keep in mind that those younger players that have shown good promise are likely going to be coveted by many teams. Do you trust the Bengals in a bidding war? I don't.
