It certainly does feel like they could, doesn't it?

Offer him well below market value.
Trey refuses, Bengals wont budge to negotiate.
No deal gets done, Trey walks at the end of the year.
We've all seen this movie before.
Don't forget we can Tag him. He is not going anywhere for at least two years.

Nobody wanted to trade for Tee last year. Why would teams want to trade for him this year when he missed a bunch of games once again?

If I was Trey, if I don't get that huge paycheck, I will leave, he's not getting any young, he's proven he deserves big $$$$....
If it was me, I would pay him, he's proven he deserves it. 1-2 yrs.

Again not true; the Bengals were not interested in trading him.

Tee was a free agent last year and could have signed with any team he wanted before he signed his franchise tender. Whether the Bengals wanted to trade him or not is irrelevant. Tee's agent could have negotiated with any team that was interested in Tee.

I don't think anyone doubts that Trey is worth more than he currently makes. He's currently the 12th highest paid Edge. Given his age, what is fair compensation? Personally, I would say that an average of the top 10 salaries at his position (the franchise tag value) is a great starting point for negotiations.

Yeah guys we can’t resign Trey long term because we have sooooo much future all pro talent just waiting like Cedric Johnson and Charlie Jones
This is what happens when you draft well guys.
You lose monumental contributions like Sam Hubbard’s 2 sacks.
Since yall are so smart how can we possibly resign Trey and his 16 sacks when we have the next Reggie White in Cedric Johnson whose gonna demand 30M per when he’s up.
Guys it’s just not smart to resign ANYONE really. When you have superstar depth like us and pro bowlers riding the bench at every position how could anyone justify resigning Trey and his weak ass. I mean cmon he didn’t even win DPOTY. What a freaking bum. We gotta save all that money for *insert random role player*
DUH guys
Y’all must be dumb as hell wanting the best defensive player on the team long term smh
We got a perfectly good Cam Sample right here who we will give all of Trey’s snaps

I’d go a step further
If i were him i wouldn’t report next year if i haven’t been extended
Only a shit team like ours would do this

Tee was tagged; so no he was never a free agent last season.

They won't extend Trey
They won't fire Lou
They won't fire Pollack
There will be no changes, we won just enough with our Dead Cat Bounce to keep them all employed; typical Bungals

can get something for him this year. Would also bring back BJ and Hilton on Defense who are not the problems.
BJ is not the problem but he’s also not the answer. Whilst I would like to have him on the roster I can’t justify that at $10m. He’s the type of good player you need to sacrifice so you can pay your stars.
It’s easier to find good players than star players.
The Bengals have four star players in Burrow, Chase, Hendrickson and Higgins. You need to pay them rather than players like Hill, Rankins, Hubbard, Moss and Cappa (and BJ is a tier above them).
The front office have already spent a third and a fourth on trying to find a WR and they’ve got next to nothing out of that.
God knows how many first and second round picks they’d spend trying to replace Trey.

It appears you don't understand how the tag system works. Teams own the right to tag a player. They must designate the player prior to free agency. Tee and his agent would be tampering (as would the team they are talking with) and face huge consequences. Agent could his job and other team could lose draft picks and be fined.
2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

suggested price for Slayton is 12-15 million prob more than they wanna pay for him as well.

BJ shouldn't be as expensive this time around with his age. He is not a problem and there are no DT's that will be available that are better
on the open market that should be cheaper. You keep a proven player like this, not move on from them especially when we do not know if
Kris Jenkins is the answer at 3-tech yet.

Spotrac has BJs market value listed as $9M; I don't think that is a high number for the peace of mind he will provide while the younger guys continue to assume a greater share of the snaps. I still think that they need to draft another quality DT to keep the shelf young and full for a few years.

The problem is that BJ Hill isn't A great player(particularly at rushing the passer) and that's what we need at DT. Our pass rush was bad by all standards this season(and that's with the NFLs best pass rusher). So doing the same thing over again would be malpractice.
