You really think??

Seeing a lot of talk in Bengals fandom about all these cuts we are going to make to free up cap....Do you guys REALLY think they're going to do that though? They might cut one or two but IMO Cappa won't be cut, Hubbard won't be cut and Stone will not be cut. This is the Bengals we're talking about. Mike Brown is horrible at this. He's cheap, but he's dumb cheap. How many years did he overpay Maualuga? We have a bad habit of keeping guys around that are not playing up to their salary. No clue why, since you know, they are CHEAP. We all know this is what SHOULD happen, but it's just not their way. I see Rankings being cut, maybe. Maybe one more, MAYBE.

They'll make cuts but only if they have replacements signed. They won't just cut these players for "cap reasons" before the start of the league year like some may think. They typically wait to make sure they have a replacement in house, and for some of these players that isn't going to happen until the draft.

According to Goodberry he has Cappa as a cut because he thinks all other teams would cut him. Must be level of play vs cap hit I'm assuming. I definitely see your point as the Bengals have held onto players more than some teams would at times. But I think the comments of hanging onto players too long would make it odd not to see a few cuts. I could see Cappa, Rankins, Pratt (since he wants a trade) and Hubbard. I'd hate to see Hubbard go and perhaps it was injuries last year but he shouldn't of been on the field. Guys like Stone and Moss I'm unsure about probably should cut stone don't want a safety that struggles to tackle.

Out of the group, I'd be most surprised to see Hubbard cut.
He's been with the team since 2018.
MB will have loyalty to him and let him finish out his contract.

Least surprising would be Rankins, then Stone.
Rankins not only was here for just a year, but he contributed nothing.
Stone just a year but did have a good December.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Well TBH Moss and Rankins would have to be injury settlements. And Moss presupposaes we extend Herbert.

I think Cappa and Rankins will definitely be cut. It would be roster construction malpractice to keep them on the team at their price points.

I think Stone will likely stay, but his contract makes him extremely cuttable, so while surprising, it wouldn't be shocking.

I think Hubbard SHOULD be cut, but I think he is where Bengals loyalty will get in the way. He is making way too much money for the value he adds to the team, but he's a local guy, a Bengals draft pick, who has not played for a team outside of Ohio in his entire career. These are the kinds of contracts that the Bengals have historically let fester on the roster.

Cordell Volson also probably sits in the should be cut, but won't be cut category.

I don't know what to make of Moss. He is coming off of an injury and back up RB can easily be upgraded for the price they'll pay him in 2025, but given how few draft picks we have this year, I could see the Bengals just keeping him on because he is already in the building and is a veteran RB, so they wouldn't risk the backup being a rookie.

And then Germaine Pratt I was 99% would not be cut, but after he requested a trade, I now think he's more likely gone, whether by trade or cut. Which is surprising  because you'd think he'd be an Al Golden guy, considering he developed him as our LB coach.

As others have said Hubbard is the one most likely not cut. They should however slash his salary down a good bit if they're going to retain him.

Cappa, Rankins, and Stone should for sure be cut. They may retain Stone though just to insure we have enough DB's. Volson they'll probably retain as a cheap back up.

Moss ? just not sure ?

I wonder about Rankins. We have a history of not cutting players who come off IR. If they think he was actually sick for longer last year and that's why his play wasn't very good, that might lead them to keeping him as well.

Anyways, yeah OP makes a good point. The Bengals are historically averse to cutting players. They have done it a bit more in recent years but nothing is a given.

That was Mike Brown's way and, while he might still be running things in name and showing up (not even sure about that), he admitted years ago that he wasn't really running things anymore and I can only assume that he has been less and less involved.

I think we'll surprise a lot of people and make cuts and then try and sign quality replacements, and I think a big reason for this is, not only does the new front office and coaching staff known that we need to make moves, but they also want to keep Burrow happy and see that we're not just sitting around on our hands like we did in the 2000s, besides for maybe one or two splash moves every offseason to keep the fanbase excited and content.

I think that, following the draft and once teams start making cuts, I think we'll make some cuts and look to sign free agents to improve the roster.

If the FO does not sign a quality Guard and DE on day one of FA this board will be a SH@T sHOW!

Hubbard is absolutely not playing this season on his current deal. I reckon a restructure is more likely than a straight cut.

Rankins is unlikely back.

Cappa is almost certainly gone.

Pratt is gone - his trade request was clearly a case of him being tipped off that he wasn’t in their plans at that price.

Volson will have to earn his place at training camp. Probably Moss too, but his situation is complicated by injury.

Stone will probably stay. The front office likely hasn’t the bandwidth to address safety as well as Tee, Trey, Gesicki, Ossai/Ossai replacement, replacements for BJ Hill, Rankins, Pratt etc and they only have 6 draft picks.

Wouldn't be the first time...................

Hilarious

I have been surprised lately by the moves of this front office, and signing a quality guard would go a long way in improving the odds of success of this team.

Of course a DE would also be nice and improve our team a great deal, and then we could use the draft like it's supposed to be used: to bolster talent, fill in holes, and build for the future.

I'm hoping, since free agency is before the draft now, that we can build the roster with proven guys in free agency, then bring in talent through the draft, and then also sign some quality players once teams start making cuts and after final cuts.

Another post like it is the old Mike Brown Bengals we are dealing with here. Players like Rankins, Cappa, Stone are being paid way too much
for what they provide. They are easy cuts to free up dough. Hubbard also is paid too much, I could see him back after we cut him as a backup
and a run stopper. Sam is a great teammate and works his ass off. Moss was supposed to be a good pass protector but that wasn't the case
and Chase Brown was better in this aspect and even Khalil Herbert shown he gives effort in pass pro.

Moss should also be cut and expect it to happen. Bring back Herbert and Hubbard of all these players for cheap and upgrade the trenches in FA.

A day one re-signing of Hudson would be more likely.

Would be much happier if it was Gesicki that is for sure.
