Tanner Hudson extended
#1
Tanner signed a one year extension. I know it is low hanging fruit but we do need these back of roster signings and they are far easier to get done than the big ones

All hopes turn to next year

Hopefully the Bengals will be able to re-sign and extend Gesicki but nothing wrong with extending Hudson.  He played a lot of special teams last year and adds some depth to the TE position as well.

If they are going to sign back ups then they need to focus on Cody Ford.
He was valuable last year filling in at G and especially T.

If only he didn't get overly excited about the prospect of scoring, and drop the ball just before crossing the goal line..

Oh boy! We’re all set now! Losing Trey means nothing because we signed Hudson!

I forgot he was the only Bengals player last year to make a dumb mistake.   Tongue

Not sure why the rush. Maybe they could have used the 1m to get another more important FA deal done.

When you have the chance to sign a 30 year old career practice squad player coming off a 154 yard 1 TD season you DO IT! Ninja

It's alright, I can let him live it down. Besides, you'll still likely be able to get him the 3rd or 4th round of your fantasy draft!  Ninja

If this was posted a year ago, people would have thought you were on something lol.

I do think Ford helped show some value last year, but I think his quality is a bit overblown.
Dude allowed 5 sacks and 37 total pressures on just 466 pass blocking snaps.

I don't consider Ford a must-sign depth piece.
Bengals should be able to find someone else just as position-versatile who can provide as good or better performance.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Every year about this time the Bengals re-sign a player like Hudson that is a depth/special teams player and people act like a team is only 11 players on offense, 11 on defense, a kicker and a punter.  Like a team doesn't need depth/backups or special team players (Hudson played 77% special teams snaps last year). I don't think anyone expects Hudson to take on a primary role and most know what we have with him at this point.  Now if the Bengals signed him to a 10 million dollar extension I'd not be happy with that.  He made less than 2 million last year and I'm guessing he is going to get about the same this year.

Of interest here is the thread from last year when he was extended:

https://thebengalsboard.com/thread-37988.html

A bit different tone form many as opposed to this thread.  But the guy makes a mistake in the first game of the season where the entire game was basically a Bengals shit show with the typical Zac Taylor slow start special and people dislike Hudson now.

Truck isn't going to like this. Mellow

But yeah, get Cody Ford extended of the little extensions that matter. Need Mike G next of the bigger ones and as long as we get
the Ja'Marr deal done before the Draft I am happy. Trey could very well come back and sign the extension that is on the Bengals
table once his agent is done trying to get a Trey trade done.

With Tee, they have all Offseason to get a deal done and a Burrow restructure could be in the cards.

Still want BJ Hill and Hilton back but I understand if we want to move on and grab a different DT and go younger at Slot with Dax.

Milton Williams is still on my radar big time in FA along with all the Guards that should be available.

I like Tanner Hudson more than most, so I am happy he's back.
He's a solid security blanket for Burrow, although he did have one big drop last season.

Unfortunately, in his two seasons with the Bengals, he only has a 8.7 YPR, so he's not someone you would look to be your starting TE if Gesicki doesn't re-sign.
I thought Gesicki was head and shoulders the best receiving TE the Bengals had.

If Gesicki isn't re-signed, I hope they draft a guy early to compete with Hudson for starting TE duties.
Sample is not a good receiver and All has too much risk with his injuries to bank on.
