Agreed. 

I believe this was one reason to get Tee/Chase/Trey deals done. If we don't take care of players who are obviously elite, why would middling guys think they'd be treated well? 

We can do OK getting guys who have been here before (Hill, Gesicki, Ossai, Perine) or guys with ties to a coach (Slaton, Burks). But for guys who are totally unfamiliar, the rep is poor and we need to overpay to get guys with multiple suitors (otherwise known as good players). 

Trying to "win" on the transactions with Tee/Chase/Trey hurts us in ither areas.

And the only reason players typically give for choosing teams over the Bengals (other than straight up money) is desire to win and with Burrow this team has a chance every year basically so I don't believe players are avoiding us.

I think the front office knows exactly what it is doing..I saw this team playing remarkably well on both sides of the ball the last 6 games of the season..with serious injuries to the offensive line....and boy our rookies  on the D line were playing lights out along with Murphy....They addressed the areas of concerns with the necesassry coaching changes, they have shored up our rotational players..which is damn important..and I think we will see..if not in FA ..the draft..a defensive lineman..a guard and number 2-3 receiver...I think this team..barring injuries will have a great year next year..I think people on this board..not all..need to calm down ..enjoy the wonderful weather

we have one remarkable artistic receiver in Chase  all we need is a few players to compliment him..Mike Gesicki really is not a tight end..but a very good receiver that stays healthy..The bengals were one of the best teams in the NFL the last third of the season and I am looking forward to next year..

This is stupid. Show the money and they come. If you have two equal deals, you might consider weather, talent, state income taxed, etc. but best deal wins. Money is the #1 factor for 99% of the players.

It's my belief that the Bengals basically emptied the bank for Burrow and now have very little they can/will guarantee for others.
That's part of why they choose to persuade players they'll stick around for nearly all of their contract, making it mostly guaranteed, but not having it come out all at once for them.

I mentioned something along these lines before. Sure, some just want a payday, others may want more. Plus players can see what happens when you ball out and still don’t get “compensated”. Fair or not, they can be looked at as cheap and not taking care of their stars. Might be enough to make a toss up go against signing here.

do not think any of the FA's s dislike the current Bengals enough to not want to come here because I believe Joe is enough to entice them.

But fact is if the Bengals are trying to sign Tee, then the FA's already know where all the Bengals money will be locked up for years.

Its almost always about the money. When a few FA's find other teams unwilling to pay them, then the bengals will swoop in and sign some as usual.

Just got to hope some quality players slip through the cracks somehow.

They may not be, but right now a high percentage of fans are concerned with the players they have incumbent to start, and fans choose to buy tickets/merch/etc.
Cincy is not like Cleveland where the entire city shows blind support no matter how poor the team does.
Attendance and merch sales will go down over the course of the year if there isn't optimism of the team doing well and making a postseason push.
It all starts with getting the fans excited in the offseason.

They may end up nailing signings like TJ Slaton and Oren Burks, but these are not names most fans recognize across the league, so it's understandable to be skeptical.

The draft also could end up helping solidify these other positions, but fans are getting more used to not get too hyped by draft picks being immediate significant contributors.
So I'm not expecting a crazy change of optimism for fans just because they may end up drafting an IOL and 1-2 DL early.
It should help improve depth though, if anything.

I know that if I were waiting to buy tickets this year based on how much I felt the team upgraded in the offseason, I wouldn't have bought tickets quite yet.
