I'm sitting here bored and decided to do another mock trying my best to take BPA while keeping our needs in mind and here's how it panned out:
17. Jalon Walker - Edge/LB 6' 1" 243 lbs. Georgia: yes I hear the not a 4-3 DE complaints. But he's just to good a football player to pass on at 17
"Some see Walker as a “tweener” while others view him as a “hybrid.” Either way, Walker can go. His career snap count is split between edge and linebacker, and his leadership is famous in the Georgia building. He’s still working to fine-tune his instincts and efficiency as an off-ball linebacker but has the take-on and closing burst to become a productive pro at that spot. He’s tough but small as an early down edge rusher, but his athletic talent and suddenness to attack both edges makes him a menace for tackles. The most valuable usage for Walker is likely to come as an early down linebacker who can rush off the edge or match up across the line as a blitzer on passing downs."
49. TreVeyon Henderson - RB 5' 10" 202 lbs. Ohio State: hopefully we get a guard in free agency but it seems they're not that pressed about it so if they don't here's a great pass pro back that can help +
"Henderson is capable of starring on third downs or biting off a bigger chunk as a three-down option. He has average size but above-average juice with good acceleration. He’s an average decision-maker inside and is not overly creative once confronted by the defense, but he has the pacing and subtle shiftiness to excel as an outside runner. He might be the best pass-protecting running back in this draft and is more than capable as a pass-catcher. Henderson isn’t Jahmyr Gibbs, but he can operate in a similar role for teams looking to add a more dynamic player to their running back room."
81. Jayden Higgins - WR 6' 4" 214 lbs. Iowa State: since we seem to be going all in on offense and I don't have much faith in Burton! A four wide set of Chase, Tee, Higgins, and Yoshi with T. Henderson in backfield would pose defenses lots of problems.
"Big inside/outside wideout with modest athletic attributes but outstanding ball skills that make him a projectable NFL prospect. Higgins needs a more limited route tree but can operate on all three levels in the right scheme. He’s smooth but physical in his routes and does a nice job of creating pockets of separation with force and strength. He has mismatch qualities from the slot with body control and a catch radius that make him a menace on jump balls downfield. He won’t outrun cornerbacks and is nothing special after the catch, but his size, ball skills and competitiveness create a profile of production as a future contributor in three-wide sets."
119. Shemar Turner - DT 6' 3" 290 lbs. Texas A&M: I know another tweener but we have got to get better at pressure on opposing QB's and he could jump outside on 3rd and long. With Trey on one side (hopefully and him and Walker coming on other...
"Three-year starter with “tweener” measurables but excellent musculation and lean mass. Turner plays with unlimited activity and a heavy dose of violence. He has a quick first step and an explosive punch. He’s capable of holding the point against single blocks or working the gaps with foot quickness. His pressure rate is hurt by a lack of length but he’s a restless rusher who hunts blockers’ edges and will eventually leak through if the play extends. His athleticism and chase quickness will see him in or near the pile with some frequency as a future starter."
153. Lathan Ransom - Saf 6' 0" 206 lbs. Ohio State: This guy is just a good football player and I don't have a ton of faith in our Safety room. And we need run support and TE coverage.
"Ransom is an experienced starter and natural strong safety with adequate size, all-day toughness and a proactive approach at the position. He plays with decisive eyes and good instincts that place him where he needs to be. He flows hard and fast. He’s a physical striker in run support and as an intimidator over the middle. Ransom is at his best playing downhill but can handle split safety duties. He might not have the coverage burst or top-end speed for some individual matchups but does a nice job of sticking to tight ends in man coverage. In total, he’s a disruptive, physical safety who can positively impact games and has future starting potential as a middle-rounder."
193. Smael Mondon Jr. - LB 6' 2" 224 lbs. Georgia: We need help in coverage LB's and he might have it?
"Mondon is physical and can run. He’s quick to flow downhill and challenge blocks with good pop. He’s inconsistent to diagnose and flow accurately to his fits, but he has good pursuit speed to range and tackle to the sidelines. He pursues the action with focus and leverage. Mondon becomes tackle-ready quickly in space. He’s effective on passing downs with good coverage and blitz talent. The run game instincts could slow him early in his career, but he’s a battle-tested, three-down option with special teams value and starting potential."
I'm not sure how realistic these picks are where I got them but FWIW here it is.
