I'm just so worried our Dline is gonna stink the field up again next season and basically be our Achilles heel - AGAIN. I don't have a ton of faith in Murphy turning it around much. I'm afraid Trey will be gone in some way. Ossai is maxed out at a rotation level player. Sample is very questionable as far as ceiling IMHO. Hill is solid but what are Jackson and Jenkins....really?
And I get the argument high round draft picks last season but...I still feel D especially Dline has to be a giant focus in the early draft rounds for this team. And if a higher level prospect DE or even DT is there at 17, that's where my pick would be.
BTW, we got gashed giving up big runs last season as well while our Dline was getting ragdolled. But on the other hans Stone was a statue on a lot of those runs as well.
I'm just not sold that our defense got fixed those last 6 games or whatever.
Rant off
The thing is, most of the Ends that will be available at 17 have questions. Mike Green and Pearce have character concerns and are undersized,
Shemar Stewart has like no production, less than Murphy had at Clemson. We have 4 DT's on the roster and pass rushing 3-techs are harder to
find than run stopping NT's. The one pass rushing 3-tech that should be there at 17 is Nolen and HE has character issues.
Think of it this way, would you rather grab the stud Safety that could end up being an All Pro or another Burton with off field problems or Myles
Murphy who had little to no production in college and looks like Tarzan plays like Jane? There are other pass rushing Ends and 3-techs after the
first round that do not have character concerns and had high production in college.

If they're re-signing Hendrickson and they paid Ossai, where's the dire need to go DE in the 1st? They're not going to cut Murphy this year, no matter how good or bad he looks. With that in mind, there have been good DEs on the board in the 3rd round in most every sim I've ran. Maybe not the 1 or 2 instant "plug and play guys, but they are typically boom or bust anyway.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Exactly, I say go BPA and if someone is not a can't miss pick, trade back. But I would just stay put and draft Emmanwori as I think he would
be an instant upgrade to our Defense. Couldn't ask more out of a 1st round pick.

Yeah, I'm having difficulty digesting the lengths that some will go to in order to find ways to break Emmanwori down as a prospect. His numbers speak for themselves, lowest missed tackle percentage by a wide margin over his next closest contemporary, blazing speed, high points the ball with his great physical size and length. People see his Height and Weight and assume he's supposed to be a Strong Safety, but most of the film I watched showed him feeling right at home as the Free Safety.

I would have no problem taking Emmanwori at 17 as long as we get a DE and a DT in the next 3 picks after that.

Every SIM I run shows good for Emmanwori, a top Guard in 2, a quality DE in 3. They just drafted two DTs last season, and they both showed a little promise. It's hard to imagine the Bengals putting a priority on DT this season. That's not to say that one that they like won't drop to the later rounds, but I wouldn't think it a priority. Golden likes his DL to occupy the OL and pressure with Blitz. A wrinkle could be that they unexpectedly take a high LB that fits his criteria to pair with Wilson. However that seems kinda doubtful, as we've heard nothing as to any movement on Pratt to this point.

No but if we do keep Pratt this is his last year on his deal....and we have had communications with LB's who also rush the passer ( Collier from OK St.) so us drafting a LB within the first 4 rounds is highly possible.
