Tobin on his way out?
#81
Mind you the only reason Tee was extended is because the FO was held hostage by Chase's agent... NOT because of Tobin.

The plan was to tag and trade him which wasn't what Tobin envisioned in the presser....

It's hard to see us as that team to sign with to get a ring. Probably the Bills and Chiefs are as they're perennial playoff teams that make runs.

We haven't made the playoffs in 2 years and largely have the same roster. IF things break right, we're a playoff team. And then from there, who knows? Got to make the playoffs to win a SB.

I like Tee. Happy he's back.

For the good of building a SB contender, trading him may have been the better move depending on return.

Like IF you can get a late 1st. Then, you have that pick AND all the cap space you saved. Could probably add 2 free agents.

But, water over the dam at this point.

IF they sign a Guard, my guess is it's $5 million or less. Might be why Scherff hasn't signed here. I'm sure they'd like him, but he probably wants more at this point.

Smith would be ideal for a one year band-aid and wouldn't preclude a high pick.  Same for Campbell though he's a 4-3 DT. Guard is the easiest fit though.

3 years ago these would have been significant signings...

They'll be fine now but nothing to beat your chest about.... If they legitimately happen. I have doubts outside of a guard (which we need more than we want because of the  talent left).

I agree all is well that ended well, and we now have to work with what we have going forward.

But folks could have waited to bump this thread until at least we signed a FA after it was created (given the Tobin plan was to get the deals done before FA started). A little to quick to try to prove my threat wrong (weeks after it was started).

Board GM's then signed their own free agents in this thread to say how wrong the thread was....

It absolutely was not.

From both Higgins himself AND Arceneaux, they thought that because the Tag was applied, their mindset was that Higgins was going to be traded.

They both then said that despite that, the Bengals were rejecting all offers and were working to sign him and they realized that they wanted him to stick around, so no, the plan was to keep him in the fold 100% and NOT to trade him.
