I've been beating the Bates drum since I had to watch him ball out all season (NFC South viewing area). Ts, I just think that they undervalued him and though that they could easily replace him. Add in that he played his college ball at Wake and the move back to the SE was an easy one for him.
Tee's contract situation may have been in the back of some minds when Bates contract should have been in the front!
Rams D was supposed to suck after Donald retired; it didn't. They got better through the draft and are now set for another run.

The only decent QB they faced during those last 5 games was a rookie Bo Nix. He threw 3 TD’s and had a 114.9 passer rating.
If you don’t think playing guys like Rudolph and DTR was a big part of why they looked so much better towards the end of the season idk what to tell you.

It's the same reason some of us do mock drafts, FA targets, etc.
We think we have an idea of what players could be good to upgrade the team.
The worry is justified after seeing the defense that was fielded last year.
The defense was 25th in both yards and points allowed.
Offense was 6th in yards and points for.
The only actual outside addition to the defense so far has been Slaton, who has the following amount of pressures by year:
2024 (208 pass rush snaps) - 13
2023 (277 pass rush snaps) - 14
2022 (134 pass rush snaps) - 5
2021 (141 pass rush snaps) - 6
That's Kris Jenkins and McKinnley Jackson level:
Jenkins (260 pass rush snaps) - 11
Jackson (133 pass rush snaps) - 7
So Slaton does not improve the pass rush at all, just the run defense.
I'm sure that will help some, but I personally don't think that swings the defense to Top 15.
Bengals were tied for 24th in team sacks last year.
We have to hope Bengals add 1, if not 2, DL who can rush the passer. One of them needs to be a DT.
Some people are rightfully worried that, like last year, the Bengals could end up losing a handful of games despite scoring 30+ points in them because the defense is just that bad.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

So we have the highest paid QB (at time of signing), the highest paid non QB ever, and the highest paid WR2 in the league? You'd better believe that there'll be criticism if they don't spring out of the gate, just blowing teams out of the water this year.

It depends. If the offense scores 35 points and we lose maybe not on JB and the offense. If OL gives JB no protection, again OL issue.
Any QB who has a bad defense is already under pressure to score a lot of points.
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Retirement maybe? The whole situation with the guard market is odd. The rest must have issues maybe outside of financial (injuries/retirement).

huh... I think I just read a good point on here. If they paid Jessie Bates, Burrow probably wouldve never felt that the organization doesnt pay their guys. Which means he wouldnt have put pressure on the team to sign Higgins. Which means the team would be more balanced overall and have a batter defense

The Steelers had a really bad offense that typically put up lower points. The 44 was the anomaly.
17 was tied for the most points they scored over their last 7 games.
