The NFL record book is about to be rewritten and Paul Brown, perhaps the most influential coach in modern football history, will be the biggest winner.

In addition,
"Graham had thrown himself back into a tie with Tom Brady at the top of the record books for quarterbacks with seven championships."

""I guess Otto was my favorite," Mike Brown said. "

As it should be.

That Browns dynasty was one of the greatest ever. If not THE greatest. 7 titles in 10 years. 10 straight title games. The win over Philly (I think) without attempting a forward pass.

Also Browns have more Championships then Steelers

AND ....

While seven championships tied Graham with Brady, seven titles for Brown has him surpass Bill Belichick as the winningest head coach in NFL history.

Might be an unpopular take but I don't like it. NFL records should be for NFL times.

The same way that Ichiro isn't the hit king because his hits in Japan don't count, and Sadaharu Oh doesn't hold the MLB record for most career home runs.

All this does is people are going to have to start adding "in the Super Bowl era" when they talk about all the records, because that's what people actually care about.

Think about how much easier a championship would be to get if we only had to compete with 3 other teams in our conference to make the playoffs and then only had to win 1 playoff game to be champion.

EDIT: Are we SURE that this is a real story, by the way? I just saw the article was posted on NFL.com on April 1st.

Anything pre-Super Bowl era is worthless to modern records. WTS taking away records from cheaters works for me...

Then we should take Pre-Superbowl players and coaches away from the Hall of Fame.

No Jim Brown for example. No Paul Brown, heck Vince Lombardi only has two Superbowl Championships. Let's rename the Championship trophy the Tom Brady or the Bill Belicheck.  Whatever

Go google "NFL Mount Rushmore QBs". Tell me how many of the lists you find have a QB from pre-Super Bowl NFL times on it. I'm sure there's proabably a couple out there, but the VAST majority are going to be guys who played in the Super Bowl era, and with a potential exception of someone who puts Marino on their list, also won a Super Bowl.

Since you brought up Lombadi/The Lombardi... quick! No looking it up, what was the name given to the pre-Super Bowl Championship?

While we’re on the subject of Paul Brown let’s start calling the West Coast Offense what it really is: The Ohio River Offense.

Apples and Oranges.

You can have a million Superbowl era QB's on the list and a handful pre-Superbowl era QB's on the list.

The NFL Hall of Fame started in Sept 1963. The Superbowl era in 1966.

In what year do you think the first NFL player NEVER to play in the pre-Superbowl era was inducted into the Hall of Fame and who was he?

Answer 1985; OJ Simpson.

So everyone inducted before 1985 doesn't count because they played in the inferior tarnished pre-Superbowl era and their records like Jim Brown means nothing?

Every record before 1966 is eliminated?

Otto Graham was possibly the GOAT with 7 Championships in Dec 31, 1965[last  year of pre-superbowl], but in Jan 1 1966[first year of superbowl era] he wasn't?

The 1966 Green Bay Packers were NFL Champions.
The 1965 Green Bay Packers were NFL Champions. [Pre-Superbowl]

Are you saying forget about basically the same team the 1965 Packers?
