I am still hoping that we sign at least one free agent guard to protect Burrow because I think our top priority should be fixing the line to protect Burrow and open holes for Chase.
I'm hoping we sign Brandon Scherff for 6.6 mil (or maybe a little more) a year for one or two years.
Like I've said before, I think this draft class of safeties is absolute garbage and I think taking one, especially early, would be a waste of a very valuable pick, so I did some research into free agent safeties and it turns out that Justin Simmons is actually very interested in playing here.
He'll be 32 this season but I feel like he would be better than any rookie and with a projected salary of only 6 million.
1) Walter Nolen DT Ol Miss- he's a steal if we can get him at 17. He can bullrush, take on multiple blockers, and is athletic enough to get to the quarterback in pass rush. He'd be a hell of a weapon and make the rest of our defense a hell of a lot better by calling for double teams and making plays.
2) I'm hoping Jack Sawyer falls to us here, but I'm going to realistically take Jordan Burch out of Oregon. Some people say Burch could last til our third round pick and some people have him going before our second round pick, and a few even have him going in the first. He's a physical specimen that can bullrush left tackles, run by him with his speed, juke them, rip through their blocks, or many other moves. I think he's a machine that will only get better and be a nightmare for offensive lines.
Check out his highlights:
3) Jonah Savaiinaea
This guy was a monster tackle at 6'4, 324, but he struggles with speed rushers off the edge because he doesn't have quick feet for great athleticism, but he is a great run blocker, anchors well against bull rushes, can pull, and can get downfield to block, so what does that make him perfect as? You guessed it: A GUARD. This guy would be a hell of a pick for us.
4) Trey Amos CB Ole Miss- 6'1 corner with fluid hips that can stay with receivers downfield. I like his style.
5) Smael Mondon Jr ILB/OLB Georgia- Super athletic guy that can play all three backer spots. He just needs his skills fine-tuned, which I like that we just hired Hodges, so I think he could help develop Mondon.
6) Barryn Sorrell DE Texas- Physical guy that can get to the quarterback and stop the run. Controls blockers and has great awareness. I think he could develop into something special for us.
Addressed the guard spot, which I think is our biggest need, and then used the rest to improve the defense.
Thoughts?

The Bengals have a star free-agent safety that wants to suit up for them. Justin Simmons appeared on the Up & Adams show this week and noted his desire to play for a team in the playoff mix like Cincinnati.
