Am I missing the thread or was this expected and I just forget about it?!
Quote:When it comes to free agents the Cincinnati Bengals lost this offseason, Trent Brown hasn’t come to mind often.
Brown, after all, signed with the Bengals roughly one year ago and technically won the starting right tackle job to start the season before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3.
Ryan Phillips of Sports Illustrated, though, selected Brown as Cincinnati’s most notable loss in free agency this offseason:
“The Bengals can ill-afford to lose anyone on the offensive line, but they cast Brown adrift after a disappointing season in 2024. The veteran tackle suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 3 and missed the rest of the season. The Houston Texans signed him to a one-year deal hoping for a bounce-back season. Meanwhile, the Bengals will have to add offensive line help via the draft.”
Even if we put Mims at one tackle, who plays the other side? Will we have any depth?
Maybe my mind's not just functioning properly at the moment, but isn't this a cause for concern?

He was a free agent and signed with the Texans on March 24th. Orlando Brown Jr. will be playing the other side, left tackle, again and is under contract with the Bengals through 2026.

We have OBJ on the left side, Mims on the right. Trent would've probably been a backup. I did'nt think he would be back with Mims being good, especially after only playing 3 games then getting injured.

Yep, Orlando plays LT and Trent shown once again he cannot stay healthy. I liked adding him initially, but it seems he cannot stay healthy
and that was the reason he was so cheap in the first place and even cheaper after we let him go. Cody Ford at least seems to be able to be
available to play and can play the Tackle spots and Guard spots.

Ford and Cochran are the OTs off the bench right now.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

I know this thread was made in error forgetting about OBjr but the more I think about it the more I think 1st round we go tackle that projects as guard. I'm thinking Banks from Texas. Its a position that can be penciled in as starter right of the bat and have potential big impact. As well as freeing up the draft for potential trade downs in rd 2 unless the right defensive player falls. Waiting for rd 2 is risky and limits us in trade downs in my opinion because it's a position of dire need at this point. I think this move could give us valuable depth if things do need to shuffle around especially with the depth at backup guards we have currently.

I'm thinking Savaiinaea (OL Arizona) on Day 2.
I have him pegged as Rd 2, as I don't think he's making it to Bengals Rd 3.
He's projected in the 50's among prospects.
And Bengals are having him visit.
If you look at the guys they've met with who play OT/OG, I'm not seeing any 1st round guys who would make sense at 17.
Conerly, Ratledge, and Savaiinaea look to be about the highest projected prospects, and those are all in the 30-60 range.

OBJr and Mims are the starting OTs. The current backups are Ford (as a swing) and Kirkland. The current Guards are Ford and Patrick backed up by Volson and Lee (swing with Center). Karras is Center 1 and Lee Center 2.
Pretty obvious we will see at least 1 high and 1 later pick on OL and probably a veteran signing either during or after the draft.

The more I look the more I would be unsurprised if we traded back in Round 1. We're at 17 and unless we get a complete gift pick there the players we want are all likely going in the 24-32 range.

Maybe.
Gotta have a trade partner though.
Maybe Bills or Texans?

The Bengals didn't "lose" Trent Brown, as much as they just let him out to pasture..
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Yeah if I did a mock this would be the guy though I don't like planning around someone. To the topic, Ford is an affordable 6th man as a fallback though not ideal starter. Cincy doesn't usually take Guards early even as bare as they are but with multiple college tackles projecting better at guards it makes sense.
Start at guard now and justify the high pick (when we need so much D help) by being able to play Tackle at some point. Then, you can still add a mid round guard that could beat out the incumbents like Volson did (shivers, circle of life). That or take a project tackle late and hope they develop behind either spot.

Why not keep the guy. Would rather have him come in off the bench when Mims struggle's, which I think he will. I hope this OL coach is better than the last. Good players seemed to regress under Pollack. Nothing you can do about injuries, but you can prepair for them. Maybe that’s why he left, they foresaw his injury prone butt to be injured most of the season. Would have been nice having him come in off the bench, but I’m sure he wasn’t willing to settle for bench pay. If he has a pro bowl year I’ll be pissed.

Yeah that's what I would think as well. He signed with the Texans for $2,350,000. At that price why not keep him as a high quality backup? Sure he got injured after 3 games this past year but your hope is you don't need a backup for many games anyways.

Cochran showed some development last year. I suspect they think he will turn out to be a quality backup. As for taking an OT projected as a Guard, I hope not. I'm tired of them taking tackles and trying to make them guards. Just draft someone who knows how to play guard.

As others have pointed out, he would have been a backup, IF he was healthy at all.
Ryan Philips is an idiot.

Savaniinaea is climbing up my board as well in the 2nd and we met with him.
