I believe Myles is overweight by DE standards at 13% body fat, but during the season, carbohydrates will be his best friend if he wants optimal performance.
I could go on, and in detail, but do not think many would care...
Yessir, I know that you could give a great dissertation on the value of exercise, proper nutrition and adequate rest, and expound upon the benefits not just for pro athletes, but all people.
Obviously Myles was using the cereal example of one thing that he loved and gave up for his body reduction program, I'm sure that if he hired a worthy strength coach and nutritionist, there have been some wholesale changes for the better in there.
However, didn't we hear a similar story last season, when he came back "big enough for the job"?

I was prone to those back in the day, but now that I am no longer living the lifestyle...
I am optimistic on Myles being an asset to the team, but was off with the body fat guess work. Apparently the average DE body fat is 16 to 18 percent and elites at 10 to 14 percent.
But it is the off season, and hopefully he will drop more weight to improve his performance after shedding blocks, losing the concrete shoes.
You are 100% right, it is the standard feel good story we get this time of year.

Gotta love the off-season "best shape of my life" fluff pieces lol
Look, I'm glad he's getting in great shape - but half these guys' problems aren't the shape they are in or their athletic ability. It's technique and skill. Hopefully he keeps working on those hands like he said he's also doing in the article.
He should try McDonald’s.

I guess I could search for more feel bad stories in JN. They are easy to find snce we have missed the playoff the past 2 years.

Can he have about the same number of sacks as his body fat % please?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

From watching Murphy's College highlight video, you can clearly see that he was more the benefactor of playing on an elite defense, rather than the reason for them being elite. One note, he does look more effective when slimmer at getting around the edge and making a play or at least being in the right spot at the right time.

I remember Preston Brown had a similar article in 2019 about giving up fast food in the offseason and that it would make him a better player.
Needless to say ,he got cut later in the season.

Pally sadly many who have responded in this thread probably blew off that important point. He was hurt in August and did not return until I think week 5. Then, the question lingers was he 100%. Was he 100% at any point in the season.
The link also goes into loss of McKinnley Jackson. A 2nd year player and a rookie missed time due to injuries, yet our fans trash them or in this thread can't wait to diss on any player who says and seems to be trying to do the right thing

Bengals clear Myles Murphy and McKinnley Jackson to practice
Both players have been out for the last month
Murphy has been on the IR list and designated for return since August 27th with a knee injury, while Jackson has been on the list since August 29th with a knee injury.
Today starts a 21-day period in which both players may practice with the team without counting against the 53-player active roster. Both can be activated to the roster at any time during that period.
This is huge news for a Bengals defensive line that’s been wiped out by injuries, the latest being a neck injury for defensive end Trey Hendrickson. It’s unclear if he’ll miss games, and if he does, Murphy’s return just became much more important.
As for Jackson, he can hopefully address a shortage at defensive tackle following injuries to Sheldon Rankins and BJ Hill.

The biggest hurdle I see for him is learning to rush from Hubbard's old spot he rushed from Hendrickson's spot in college.
If you put Myles in Henderickson's spot I am sure you would see an improvement.
If you put Hendrickson in Hubbard's old spot you would see a big decline.
That is why you draft a guy for the spot you need to fill.
Once you tell a rookie to change as soon as he hits the league and send him into a learning process you will stunt his production.
As opposed to just telling him to do basically what he did in college.

Got cut by two different teams later in the season, and never played again. Done before his age 28 season.

While some might appreciate seeing players put in the effort, I think many just really care if they are producing on the field.
And without seeing yet if that hard work has or will pay off, it can be difficult for some to get excited.
I want both of them to succeed.
I give more leeway to Jackson than Murphy though because 1) Jackson was picked 2 rounds later than Murphy, so he should be expected to take longer to develop, and 2) Murphy has been in the NFL a year longer.
Unfortunately for Murphy, he has to really do well this year to get his option picked up since that decision is next offseason. Or maybe he doesn't really care because if he does well by the end of 2026, he'll likely get a good deal somewhere even if not Cincy.
