MDD No Trade Sim
#1
While I think this could be a good draft for the Bengals to trade down, if they could walk away with the following selections then I would be extremely happy. When the Bengals went on the clock with the 17th selection the following players were on the board by their draft ranking:

9) Tyler Warren - TE
10) Tetoiroa McMillan - WR
13) Kelvin Banks Jr. - OL
18) Colston Loveland - TE
20) Matthew Golden - WR
21) Malaki Starks - S

The targets that I felt best fit the Bengals in relation to value and need were Tyler Warren, Kelvin Banks Jr., and Malaki Starks. Tyler Warren is a great football player that could add a whole new dimension to the Bengals offense but at the end of the day offensive weapons are not an issue for this team and the selection of Warren is a luxury selection and not a prudent business decision for the Bengals. I feel that Malaki Starks is the best safety in this draft and when you look at his traits and measurables you are looking at Jessie Bates 2.0. However, the selection was Kelvin Banks Jr.

Kelvin Banks Jr. - OL - Texas - 6'5" 315
While I would have really liked the selection of Starks it just made no sense to pass on an elite talent to protect the franchise QB when that starting guards that the Bengals played in '24 graded out near the bottom of the league. Banks can play LT at an elite level but some feel that he may be an even better guard. The Bengals draft Banks to lock down the LG position of day 1. The bonus is having a player that could step in an takeover the LT position and play at an extremely high level should the Bengals move on from Orlando Brown Jr. at some point. Much like the path that Whitworth took.

Nic Scourton - DE - A&M - 6'3" 257 (Best Available)
The Bengals need to address the future of the their pass rush and ironically Scourton draws the NFL comparison to Trey Hendrickson. This is a mighty high comparison and I actually feel that Scourton is a better run defender than Hendrickson. Scourton brings an elite motor and effort along with outstanding awareness. He has already developed a variety of moves and counters and is adept at working thru double teams while staying with the play. I would liked to have seen higher sack production but like with Trey I feel that these numbers will come. Film shows an extremely disruptive defender that creates chaos in an offensive backfield.

Jonah Savaiinaea - G - Arizona - 6'4" 324 (Best Available)
Just as in round 2 the Bengals go best player available and land an immediate need with a high value prospect and in doing so they lock down the RG position for the foreseeable future. The film from '22 and early '23 show an outstanding natural RG who has the dense thick frame for the interior to go along with outstanding length for the position. Jonah has very good hand usage as a pass defender but needs to continue to improve his hand placement as a run blocker. Jonah needs to continue to refine some technique issues when sitting down to anchor against bull rushers but overall he is a high caliber upgrade at RG and is able to kick out to RT in an emergency.

Team Captain for the Wildcats.

Ty Robinson - DL - 6'5" 288
The Bengals continue the overhaul to the trenches. I find Robinson to be a very interesting prospect in that I feel he could be a starting LDE or DT. He could be a LDE that moves inside on passing downs. His play style has been described as a bully and that is very fitting. Robinson plays with a violence, ferocity, and physicality that DCs covet. It is the mentality and style that he plays with that make up for his lack of length. The coaches at Nebraska speak of Robinson and his character with high regard. Al Golden and Montgomery I feel are really going to like this selection.

Jonas Sanker - S - Virginia - 6'0" 206
The Bengals get a steal in the 5th with Sanker who I feel is the most underrated safety in the draft. When looking at his weaknesses you will find that much of it lines up with that of Starks with the area he needs to really work on being pursuit angles just as with Starks. This is an area that I believe to be greatly impacted with coaching and maturity at the position. Sanker has shown good coverage ability and is very active against the run. He has displayed good vision and instincts while at Virginia and has been very active on special teams for them. His work on special teams could allow him to find the field early should he not take a starting safety position.

Jordan Hancock - CB - The Ohio State - 6'0" 195
Hancock has been instrumental for the Buckeyes as a nickel and slot corner and has shown a penchant for causing turnovers. He is a positional versatile DB that needs to continue to improve his man cover ability but brings good size, speed, length, and aggression to the position. Could be an early STs contributor or certainly a player worth putting on the PS to develop.

Did we meet with Banks? If so, this could be likely if he is there at 17. It seems we have met with more Tackles that can play Guard
rather than just outright Guards. Scourton I think would be a steal in the 2nd. Savaiineae I know we have met with, makes a ton of
sense and I like doubling up on OL and going so trench heavy once again with Ty Robinson who we also met with.

Good job OSUfan. I like this even if I want a RB in this Draft really bad. Still, we could still get a good UDFA with how deep it is.

I would have also liked a RB prospect in this draft but the way it fell I could not pass on some of the value selections that the Bengals had a chance to make relative to immediate needs. However, there were some interesting prospects that went undrafted in this simulation that really fit with what the Bengals do on offense and could be looked at as priority UDFAs. Such as:

LeQuint Allen Jr. - Syracuse
Tahj Brooks - Texas Tech
Montrell Johnson - Florida
Jacory Croskey-Merritt - Arizona

Nice, I really like Lequint Allen who is an all around back and the best pass protecting RB in this Draft. Saw some of Tahj Brooks over his career
as well and liked him. Ollie Gordon is another RB I like but he might go earlier than we are willing to draft a RB, same with Skattebo.
