Hoping Dax is an anomoly but I do wonder how effective he will be.
That is fair concern based on history.

We've heard the coaches talk him up a little this pre-season and I think he'll get more chances/rotations (though some of that depends on where things are with Trey when the season starts). He's 25 so he's entering his physical prime. I could see him being focused working his tail off to make the most of every snap he gets. His career and millions are on the line.
Money is the great motivator + he did show signs in 2024 of getting much better on a bad defense.

I guess it depends on the rookie. You could say Shemar Stewart had a breakout season if he gets 10 sacks. I picked Tahj Brooks a 6th rounder so if he gets 500 to 600 rushing yards I would consider that a breakout as a rookie.

I would say no from the thread post, who makes a big step forward as a player, a rookie has yet to step so only players on our team last year which we have data and performance already fit this thread.

bfine; please don't ask a complicated, nuclear physics, paradoxical question. Might as well ask the tree falling in the forest koan.
This could start an entire new thread of illogical logic discussions with occasional exchanges of insults - ultimately leading to Frankie Booth getting suspended.
I hope you are happy with yourself, Sir!

Slaton really wouldn't be a "breakout" player though given he's proven himself with GB already, no?
Maybe I falsely assumed it was a player who was not proven much ever before aside from a very brief stint of ~5 games or less.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

I was just reading an article earlier that has him listed as a potential breakout player. Citing his return abilities on STs and for the reasons you have listed.

I am going to go with Jordan Shipley... I mean Charlie Jones. I read that he has been working with the wide receiver coach that got Yoshi and Brown together. And that he is heading back to ATL with them to work with him these next 5 weeks. Also read that he was Burrows top target thus far in ota's/minicamp.

I am going to exclude the rooks from consideration. Leaps for me means 1 year in the league or more.
D has a lot of legit candidates: Dax Hill, Turner, Ossai, Jackson, and Jenkins all seem realistic. Even Murphy, Newton, Battle, and Johnson seem possible.
I am gonna go with Hill, even though he is coming off injury.
On O the list is shorter. Mims, Yoshi, Burton. C. Brown has already leveled up in my book, though he could do it again.
I hope it is Mims. But I am gonna go with Yoshi.

I didn't think so. Nor a guy in his first year with the team. So I didn't consider Slaton or Burks or Patrick or anybofcthe rooks.
YMMV, though.

If that is the case then I withdraw my nominee of Slaton and go with Cam Sample..

Anyone who noticeably out performs their expectations can be considered a 'breakout player'.
If Slaton comes in and becomes DJ Reader v2 and gets a handfull of sacks, that's a breakout from his usual/expected production.
If Stewart comes in and gets 10 sacks, that's a breakout from his usual/expected production.

Yep. Trey for example didn’t truly break out until his 4th season.

People getting paid to write about the NFL suggest a rookie can have a breakout year:

Edit: Fairchild is listed for the Bengals in the article.
