MLB Draft 2025
#1
The Major League draft is July 13-14 this year.  The Reds pick 9th.

Currently the Reds have a good supply of both infielder and pitching prospects in the minors, but are light in outfielder prospects.

As you can see by this ranking https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/draft...the best early draft prospects are infielders and pitchers.

The best outfielders in the draft are likely Ike Irish, who is a late riser, and Jake LaViolette who has dropped out of preseason number 1.

The top overall players are...

Ethan Holliday SS/3B High school...Likely number 1 pick.  His bloodlines... brother and father...tough to bet against.
Kade Anderson LHP LSU...Some consider him a number 2 pitcher.  Has 30 percent swing/miss rate on 4 different pitches.
Seth Hernandez RHP High School...Number 1 stuff but high school pitchers are riskier.
Jamie Arnold LHP Fla St...Has a reliable high floor and has excelled consistently 2 consecutive years.
Eli Willits SS High School...Only 17.  Son of an ex-Major Leaguer also.  Has an Anthony Volpe comp.
Aiva Arquette SS/3B Ore St....Has terrific size.  I've seen a Troy Tuluwitski comp.
Billy Carlson SS High School..Has a great arm.  Is a bit older.  Almost 19.  Trea Turner'ish'?
Liam Doyle LHP Tenn...His fastball and k rate are elite but there is some mechanical/reliever concern.
Kyson Witherspoon RHP Okla....He reads like a high velocity ground ball pitcher.
Jo Jo Parker and Steele Hall are other highly ranked SS prospects.  Hall, in particular, grades super high in foot speed.

Early prediction...this draft could go a lot of ways....these prospects are closely ranked....but the BPA, as the Reds pick, will be Kyson Witherspoon.

I may lean toward pitching if Reds aren't wanting to go for an OF.
While Reds have Burns and Lowder ready to perform at MLB level now, here are the remaining years before each of the current rotation becomes a Free Agent.

Greene - FA in 2030 (4 more years under contract)
Lodolo - FA in 2028 (2 more years under contract)
Abbott - FA in 2030 (4 more years under contract)
Singer - FA in 2027 (1 more year under contract)
Martinez - FA next year

Burns and Lowder will take over for Martinez and Singer, but especially if they take a HS pitcher, they'll be a few years away, so they could be coming up right as Greene and Abbott are about to hit FA and Reds aren't willing/able to pay their market value that other teams would.

But as for Ike Irish that was mentioned, I'm seeing mocks just from this last week that are putting him around the 8-12 range, so right where the Reds will be picking.
MLB.com has Irish listed as their 11th prospect now, forecasting him best for RF and utilizing his great hitting ability.
Irish is also likely someone who can come to the bigs within a year or two.
We should know by then too whether Rece Hinds is worth a damn.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!
