I know everyvteam should tryvto improve via FA/draft,,but I think we have at most spots.
QB: same to better. Ridder is a better #3. Burrow with a healthy camp.
RB: better. Brown starter from jump. Perine + Brooks is better than Moss & T. Williams. Brightwell a decent RB4.
WR: better. Same personnell, but Jones is healthier, Burton isn't AWOL, and Yoshi looks better.
TE: better. If you count All as already being out. Fant is a legit good oickup who can be a TE1. Rest is the same.
OT: a wash? Worse only if you count T. Brown as healthy. Ford & Cochran were your reserve OTs past year, and are again. Better is OBJ healthier. Mims hampered again.
IOL: marginally better. Fairchild & Patrick will be better than Volson/Cappa.
DE: worse with Trey out. Better if he's back. Stewart + Sample over Hubbard.
DT: marginally better. Slaton over Rankins + Tufele. Jenkins & Jackson healthier.
LB: marginally better. Knight + Burks + Carter is annupgrade, bur Pratt/ADG were not bums.
CB: better health butcworse oersonnel with Hilton gone.
S: same.

Yikes! How many years has it been since we had solid G play? I'm thinking Big Z...if so, that's gotta be close to a decade ago.
Love seeing that from the young D-lineman, but hate seeing the IOL get rag-dolled.

This half-assing FO and their approach to building a team.. They get off to a great start by cutting Cappa and making a conscious decision to replace Volson via the draft, but what do they do to fill the RG spot? You guessed it, they went dumpster diving for the cheapest POS that "seemed" like he might be able to remain standing upright for a season.

Cappa was good here until his ankle injury
Boling was here after Z left
Spain wasn't terrible his 1-year

i do as well. He's has been some really good flashes this training camp. I dont know that he should be throwing our RG to the ground one handed but he has looked good.

Those guys were all serviceable, I agree with that. Wts, it would be nice be able to feel confident about the IOL play weekly.

Jenkins is freakishly strong. We did not get to see a ton of that last year with the injury.
But ya'll are freaking about Patrick getting tossed when Ford gave up the sack.
OL should have been priority #2 after bringing back the big 3.
FO scorecard:
1) Deals for Chase, Tee, Trey.
---2/3. 66.6%. Fail.
2) Fix the OL.
--Cut Cappa, Let T. Brown walk
In: Fairchild, Patrick, Rivers. Maybe McLaughlin.
Grade: C-/D.
3) Bring back the solid players from last year if the deal is reasonable & cut dead weight.
Retained: BJ Hill, Ossai, Gesicki, Grandy, Hudson, Adomitis, Robbins, Kirkland, M. Wilson.
Let walk/go: Hubbard, Rankins, Hilton, Pratt
Grade: B
4) Low budget FA moves
In: Slaton, Fant, Burks, Perine
Grade: A-
5) Draft:
Hated it on draft night. Mostly for the redundncies, reaches, and lack of trade downs, and the risk of the Stewart pick.
Grade: C up from a D. But really too early to tell.
6) Cap management/max space
Grade: D.
Still in C-/D territory. A Trey deal moves it up a full letter grade. Some OL help (Risner, cut guy) in addition would put us in the B/B+. range.

that Patrick disaster reminds me of that center we had few years back that was embarrassly destroyed during a game by a squeeler, of all teams...with a body slam.

Slaton has to play 2 games and he is automatically better than Rankins. I personally think we will be very happy with Slaton

Cappa is injured again
Trent Brown was medically cleared from his patellar tendon tear but was placed on PUP for an unknown reason. He had yet to see the field. I don’t know if I would have cut Cappa until they were sure they had a replacement but getting rid of Brown was the correct one

Thanks for the update on Brown, pally.
I wasn't necessarily lamenting letting him walk specifically, but the lack of a real OT3. It is a gamble I probably would have made.
Not a big Ford fan.

Patrick is not a starting-caliber player. He’s barely rotational. Yet there are much better options waiting for a phone call we’re clearly not planning to make.
I don’t have much faith in this FO - never have - but I thought even they would have addressed the IOL and gotten Trey back on the field.
This is not a playoff team as it stands.
If they go 9-8/8-9 (or worse) mostly because of a weak defense and a patchwork OL, Burrow is going to ask out of here. And unlike with Carson Palmer, no one is going to blame him.

If the team would just pick up the phone and call Dalton Risner's agent, I think that many of us would feel a lot more comfortable about Joe's season long safety.
I have to wonder why Risner is still available.

Zac said they will follow a similar game plan for Monday that they did for Philadelphia. So look for 2-3 series from the offensive starters and maybe a bit longer for the defense since several of them didn't play
Zac wants to see: "Better attention to detail... there were so many foolish things we did... that part was really disappointing... I expect to see us much cleaner operationally in this game."
Shemar Stewart: "The power, the disruptiveness... you feel his impact... He's a guy who's made an impact on me."
Myles Murphy is week to week with an ankle
Codell Volson has been practicing so I'm not sure what is going on with him...looks like he sustained a shoulder injury yersterday...no timeline yet on recovery. That certainly throws a wrench in the works. Even if he is bad, he is a veteran guard
right guard is "a work in progress"

He has been a late camp signing the last couple of years.
He had an incident with Denver's backup QB during a game.

and now Cody Ford is on the rehab field.
Will injuries to Volson and Ford provide a wake up call to Duke Tobin
Mike Brown getting ready to suit up on the offensive line

And all the other IOL they missed the chance to sign.
They had no interest in a meaningful fix.
