Reds August 2025 Thread
#1
There are suppose to be over 80 thousand at Reds vs Braves in Tennessee Race Track.  That should be good money if Reds get half or a third of the gate.  No Fans 2020 and Low Fans 2021 and 2022 forced player cuts.  So it helps to have Fans and making Money.

So people in Tennessee get to see Atlanta and Cincinnati, and Tennessee has fans of both over the decades. This is going to be one large crowd for a baseball game.

Reds added Gold Glove Third Baseman Hayes from Pirates and Starting Pitcher Littell from Rays.  Reds didn't trade any top players right now to get them.  So Reds seem to be making a push to get a wild Card spot This Year. The winning streak they got on must have helped.  So those two will be wearing Reds uniforms starting August.  Maybe some help on the Francona Rebuild.  Reds also added Andujar from Athletics who also plays Third but also Outfield.

Singer with another outstanding outing. After getting blown up in Washington after the All-Star break, he's dropped his season ERA by almost a half of a run since then.

Reds held to five hits, two for Lux and Benson and one for McLain but hold on despite Pagan sucking ass.

Still haven't been swept.

Looking forward to tomorrow's game.

Could become the only the first team to ever win a MLB game in TN. That would be historical.

Wonder if it's a testrun for a potential expansion to 32 teams.

I'd kind of like to see it. Only to give balance/imbalance(a few more division games) back to the schedule.

I like inter-league play, but I've never been a fan of the fact that there HAS to be an inter-league series going on at all times. Bring back the rotating inter-league divisions and instead of making it one series like before, make it a home series and a road series.

The biggest argument against the last expansion was that the hitters were crushing the pitchers and there wasn't enough pitching in the pipeline. Back then, from 1994 through 2000, in four of those seven years, the average hitter was hitting at least .270. 2009 was the last year that the average was above .260. It's .246 this year and it was .243 last year. I'm pretty sure that the league can take it.

I also think that MLS has kind of spooked them a bit. "America's Pastime" took 122 years to get to 30 teams in 1998 . . . MLS started in 1996 with ten teams and 29 years later, they debuted San Diego FC as their 30th team. The NBA only took 58 years to get to 30 teams, but most of their games are in baseball's off-season. MLS isn't as big, but they're direct competition.

Why I think that Matt McLain will rebound to what we saw in him a couple of years ago.

I don't play fantasy sports so I don't have access to the spray charts or stuff like that, but I'm pretty sure that we all know that we've seen him hit a lot more of weak, routine fly balls to RF this season, when it didn't look at all like he was trying to hit to RF. That's actually a good sign, though, believe it or not.

When a right handed hitter is swinging the bat, the left hand is on the bottom of the bat and is closest to the pitcher as it approaches the plate.

When the bat is crossing the plate, your wrists roll and when the bat gets in front of the plate, your right hand is now closest to the pitcher.

Unless you are TRYING to hit the ball to RF, your goal is to hit the ball in the front part of the plate(left center gap) or juuuuust in front of it(crushed to LF). That's usually the fastest part of the swing with the rolling of the wrists adding a little extra momentum. That's why guys like Hank Aaron and George Foster had so much power despite not being big. They both played at around 6 ft- 180 lbs but they also had super strong forearms turning those wrists over and through the ball.

A level swing is never truly level.
When your wrists are rolling over on a 'level; swing', that bat is going to naturally raise up about 1/2 to 2/3 of an inch as it crosses the plate. When you are right on track to crush the ball with an accurate swing, but your timing is a fraction of a second late, you are going to be slightly under the ball. The bat, which is not yet full speed, will still be angled to send the ball to the right side because your wrists haven't fully rolled yet.

I haven't seen McLain hit a lot of weak, routine fly balls to left. He's usually on it or weak to the right side. Missing that year is huge but he'll rebound. You know who regressed a lot in his second year? Elly. He looks pretty damn solid at the plate right now. McLain will too. His accuracy is there . . . He's reading it right, it's just that his timing is a bit off right now.

This is also why Andrew Abbott is so awesome. You can correctly guess fastball on him and still be off because you were guessing 94 MPH and he gave you 95-96. Mostly good contact, but it only made it to the warning track. Better luck next time.

Now, if only Santillan can learn that.

Francona sent this to Pagan and Santillan in a group text last night.
"You two ARE NOT pitching tomorrow no matter the circumstance. I don't care how big Santillan is, I'll kick his ass!"

Yeah, his players love him.
