RG Options
#21
(5 hours ago)WeezyBengal Wrote: Front office dropped the ball on this one.

Options are pretty limited at this point. All they can do is cross their fingers. A trade is another option, but we all know how stingy the Bengals are with trades.

I'd get the Saints on the phone and ask them about Cesar Ruiz. He's signed through 2028, but his contract isn't structured in a way the Bengals love. Maybe the Saints can throw some cash in. Throw them a 3rd or 4th round pick?

I'm wondering if we could trade a receiver for a guard.
We have so much depth there and will have to cut someone decent.

Otherwise I don't know of another position group where we have too many players.
Maybe someone wants to bite on Myle Murphy (lol)

Other than that. we'll have to keep an eye on Waiver Wires as teams trim down to 53.

I have a feeling that is the Bengals plan to grab someone that gets cut.

HOnestly, if whomever we start at RG is going to struggle anyways, I'd rather it be Rivers because at least there's the possibility he could grow into a starting caliber RG.

An interesting decision if true. If not a cap casualty, not sure it helps us. I would rather us trade for a starting guard.I would love Nelson. But, he is a 15 million cap hit for us in 2025, so not sure we could extend Trey.

But he is a left guard. Could he play right guard as well?

But unlikely anyway, but one could hope.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

They did drop the ball on this one - both in terms of free agents and the draft.

Brandon Thorn was on the Ross Tucker podcast recently and was raving about Tate Ratlege.   Get him and Fairchild together and we have two starters and a long term solution.   I like the Knight pick, but protecting the franchise is always the priority.   Draft him and sign one of the better free agent guards for a year.  Stop putzing around!

I kind of doubt it, unless someone really catches their eye.  You typically only carry three G's.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to solidify that spot?

Do we need to look to make a trade?
Bring in a FA?

Or is there someone on the roster that we like?

I'm pretty happy with all the other positions on offense.
But it would be nice to solidify this position as well.

Have been saying it all offseason, add Dalton Risner. He played RG last year with the Vikes and was decent in pass pro and he said he wants to
be a Bengal. I don't care if the coaches don't think he fits the scheme either, we pass the ball more than anyone and need good pass protectors.

Why hasn't he been signed yet by a team?
Is he coming off an injury?

They definitely need to explore some options at this point.

What kind of guard do you think you could get in a trade?  I dont see any team giving up a quality guard.   I think the best you could realistically hope for in a trade is a slightly above average guard.  Now you may say great, that's all we need.  I would say if you want a slightly above average guard Risner or Scherff are available and you wouldnt have to trade anybody to get them.

His price point could be too high for the Bengals right now and Risner knows the chances of a good team losing someone on the oline are pretty decent so he can afford to sit back and wait for that emergency, where he gets paid better.

If all else fails, he can decide to bite the bullet and play for a team of his choosing at a lower contract.

I heard Risner was healthy and if we are talking health Patrick has not been. His only excuse for his poor play that can be bought is he is coming
off a leg injury and trying to get healthy and maybe Stewart has just been a terror. Risner would instantly add better depth at both Guard spots.

Ford is not a RG, he is a swing Tackle that can play decent at LG and Fairchild is the LG. Perplexing to say the least why our team of all teams has
not pulled the trigger on Risner with Patrick's injury and poor play.

I understand not going after Scherff who reportedly retired or Hernandez who is coming off injury too, but not Risner.

That probably is it with Risner. Wait until the Bengals get really desperate, he could end up being on our team when all is said and done but I
like OL playing with their new Offense a little while before the season.

I'm not sure.

I just remember awhile ago we traded Billy Price for a solid player because the Giants were going to cut said player anyway.

I'm wondering if we can get a similar trade where the other team is deep at the Guard position.

I get that oline is usually not a deep position group on most teams so it's probably less likely.

It's rare you find a great trade but with cut downs you never know.

People need to take a breath on Patrick until after the Commanders game. Some guys play better than they practice so i'm not super concerned about what's going on in camp...yet.

Against Philly, he whiffed hard on 1 passpro rep and 1 run rep.
He looked a little confused on who to block on 1 run away from him.
He looked late on 1 stunt and the chop block was him tripping and touching a defender, on the ground, while he was already engaged. Not every one of those miscues affected the play negatively.

I don't see a RG Volson 2.0 or a Cappa from last year, just yet.

This monday night should be a line of demarcation to whether they roll with him or look for a replacement, while still having time for the "new guy" to get reps.

Jalen Rivers, Caleb Etienne, Cordell Volson, Jason Kirkland, Matt Lee, Seth McLaughlin, Andrew Raym, Lucas PATRICK, Cody Ford, Andrew Stueber, Devin Cochran, Andrew Coker

Here are the 12 offensive lineman on the roster that can't play the easiest position to play, RG, on the line at an acceptable level. Some are dinged up, but the rest are too weak, too slow, or too unskilled. Why would anyone think the front office are the people to solve this problem?
