1. O/SLB Jaylon Smith, ND, 6-2.5, 240; - our starter at SLB, will sit on NFI list through week 8, then will be on in active list until he is needed.
2. CB William Jackson, HOU, 6-0, 210; - special teamer and nickeleback until he learns defense.
3. WR DeRunnya Wilson, MSS, 6-4, 220; - big catch radius, he will be in on 3rd downs and red zone plays until he learns route tree.
4. OC/LG Max Turek, USC, 6-5, 290; - can play left guard and center, will be on inactive list until he learns offense.
5. QB Kevin Hogan, STAN, 6-3, 225; - with AJ McCarron entering last year of contract, we need to find his replacement. He will sit on PS first year and compete for 2nd string QB in year 2.
6. DT NT DJ Reader, CLEM, 6-2, 325;- he is a mauler, will demand double team most of the time. He will sit on inactive list until he learns defense.
6b. (Comp Pick) - DE DT Anthony Zettel, PSU, 6-4, 275 (Wallace Gilberry type); - he can play both DE and DT, he will sit on PS until he learns the defense.
7. WR Duke Williams, AUB, 6-2.5, 225; - a gamble, but it is the seventh round so no big loss if he doesn't work out. He will have to earn a PS spot.

Were you serious with this mock or is it supposed to be a "haha" mock?
Only two picks will contribute right away?
We don't have many holes to fill, and this team typically doesn't do a whole lot in free agency, so we need guys that can come in right away and contribute to help us get over the hump, win a playoff game, and be a title contender.
I do like the Wilson pick and think that he's a big target that would be a great possession receiver that can also stretch the defense. His character flag was that he got caught with weed, which doesn't concern me.
Need a SAM to contribute early if we're drafting one that high and I don't like waiting on a NT that long, especially if he'll be inactive to start, because an effective NT is one of the only things holding this D back from being elite.

McCarron still has 2 years left on his contract.
This year, 2016 and 2017.
hard to get behind your mock when I don't know what you're doing with Free Agency.

Agreed but how often do we make big splashes in FA?
Who is even out there to consider?

That's pretty much the norm with this team. If we re-sign Marvin Jones, Pac-Man, Iloka and Reggie Nelson, where would we have a player that would come in and start or contribute right away?
That being said, when was the last time that the Bengals really drafted more than a couple guys that started and played right away? It's just not their MO right now.

SAM.
NT. HUGE need there.
WR. Even if we re-sign Jones, we're likely still losing Sanu.
Center. Another HUGE need.
DE. We need at least one more rotational guy.

We use a SAM backer 25-30% of the time and it's Maualuga. So, no.
The coaches LOVE Peko. A new guy isn't going to step in and see major playing time - most rookie DTs don't
Center? Good luck with that.
Rotational guy, sure. But a rookie wouldn't be playing a ton.
The bottom line is that this coaching staff doesn't play rookies unless they are ready.

Rey's our MIKE linebacker.

They DID love him and maybe still do, but what makes you think that love is unconditional after a season as bad as last?
Even if he doesn't see major playing time, he'd still get time to get accustomed to the NFL and be groomed into the position. Drafting a nose would at least give Peko a season to become less and less involved so it's not just like we're dropping him completely out of nowhere.

Solid points with valid reasoning for backing

Why not? Drafting a guy in the first few rounds means that he has the ability to produce.

But they could be ready and upgrades over what we have now.
