The cap is only going to go up from here so it should make it easier to keep the guys we want back.

It may not change how Cincy does business, but I'd hope they would strike on being a little more flexible with extending their own guys right now. This may strike a nerve with some, but I'd be okay with locking in Dre for a few more years at a reasonable number. You do it for continuity, and the idea that they're very careful on handling starting corners. They let Zim play his guys that knew the system in Dallas over then young Dre, and sat Dennard for a long time as well. As it stands, there are questions at corner so there would be a lot of pressure to draft one high (over a true BPA at another position) because they aren't paying top dollar in any year for a top 64 NFL corner or putting a rookie out there. They really hate having dead money, but I think they'd pay out say two million in his 3rd or 4th year to have him as a starter today. You'd also look toward signing Zeitler and Gio today too, though the gap may increase between Zeitler as the top salary for a guard goes up.

As for the UFA's, the guy it could change things with could be Nelson. I don't think he signs before FA opens, but Cincy may increase the guarantees early in the deal and front load it, but I can't see them paying him top dollar at the end of his career like a desperate team may. Also throw in the possible question marks at corner (Dennard coming off injury, Shaw a tweener yet talented, limited depth and Dre not a #1) and it makes sense to sure up safety. I think how they go after the others won't change much, maybe they throw an extra 500k-1M at Gilberry as depth to free up draft options, but that's about it.

I agree with this. Good safety play has been a boost for us the past few years, especially against Pittsburgh and Baltimores long passing games. Frontloading Nelsons contract might be the best way to ensure we keep him for the 1-2 years we still need him. We'll see..

Dre can still get better.
I have no problem with keeping him around.

The Bengals will retain the guys they want.... The only guys that will be difficult will be MLJ and Iloka but I'm sure MJ can warn them about
chasing the money.

Michael Johnson and Housh could be guys who warn about chasing the money, but it will never stop them from trying. These guys are coming off 5th round rookie deals. I imagine they'll look for the most money possible. It's looking like these two will be gone.

I doubt we will lose both maybe one but not both. Just curious where are you hearing this that both will be gone?

It's just a guess. I just see them both going into the market to find out what they're worth and someone willing to overspend for them. It only takes one team to go nuts and hand out a huge deal.

True... My hope is the Bengals smarten up and just sign them. To me there the only two guys I really want back the rest of the players are either to old or insignificant to be brought back.

That's where I'm at. If we somehow get both Marvin Jones and Iloka back, then I'd sport a woody that would make Viagra proud. It just seems like the FA market is going to be bare and there are some teams, like the Raiders and Jags, who have crazy amounts of cap room. So players are going to be overpaid. I think Jones and Iloka are candidates for some kind of ridiculous deal.
