They aren't going to ask Erickson to do that much, they never asked Tate to do that much.

except both our TEs are hurt currently

Or conversely my dear friend...when the Bengals are down by 4 late in the 4th quarter and Erickson takes it to the house for a TD and Bengal victory, fans will remember the release of Tate... Tongue

was hoping Erickson made the team for returns... But figured Tate at least provided a bit of experience at WR where there isn't a lot of especially with Lafell not showing hes ready...

Do we possibly make a run at a veteran WR?

I think the catch that Core made going deep was the nail in the coffin.....Green, Boyd, Core...I guess they are counting on LaVelle.....You guys have mentioned Erickson.....Wright hasn't done much but is still in the mix.....I guess the new offensive coordinator could live without Tate, and I guess the special teams coach has some return men he would rather have than Tate....So if both coaches scratched him off the list, he was done....There is a new offensive coordinator in Zampese and he coached Rams Super Bowl with Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and all those good receivers...and his dad coached Air Coryell at San Diego Chargers with Dan Fouts, James Brooks and all those receivers.....So Zampese has Dalton and Gio Bernard plus Hill, but he wants all those receivers and he isn't going to stop until he has all those receivers because THAT is Zampese football.....Those TD passes to Gio and Hill the other night are classic James Brooks and Marshall Faulk pass plays to the RB....The idea is too many pass options for the defense to cover....it worked for Air Coryell and Rams Greatest Show On Turf....I guess Zampese wants more than a Tate.....Don't be surprised if Zampese see's a WR that another team cuts, and he tells the Bengals to grab him. He will want to line up with 5 top pass catchers every play, including the RB, because that is Zampese football from dad down to son.

That said, Thanks for your years as a Bengal Mr Tate.....throw in they couldn't ask Tate to be practice squad as they will one of these guys playing preseason game 4.....Plus we will get Eifert and the other TE back at some point....Zampese will give Dalton many pass options because that is Zampese football. Zampese football is not big on throwing short on 3rd down and punting. Air Coryell means move the chains down the field. On 3rd and long Tate was good for a short pass and punt, but that play may be out of the playbook.

This.

Too many people concerned with things going badly rather than hopeful of things improving.
People can't wish for an upgrade over Tate then be worried he's gone.
There would have been no justification for him to stay on the team as a backup RS with little to no contribution as a WR.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

I actually didn't mind him as a wide receiver, but as a punt returner he drove me crazy.

I wish him all the best.
Everything in this post is my fault.

You know, you make a lot of good points in your posts, including this one. It is a shame they are as hard to read as they are. If you'd clean up the ellipsis use and get some paragraph form I'd read all of your posts in their every time!(not that you care, just saying)

Ninja ....but seriously.

I recall many screaming for Dane Sanzenbacher to replace Tate. Where's Dane these days anyway ? Be careful what you wish for.

Best wishes, he was solid, somewhat, not flashy at all, a professional....just getting older, and the Bengals did right by him cutting him early.

I didn't have the hate for Tate that some did, but I'm looking at it in terms of just how amazing this makes the Alex Erickson story.

Wisconsin "approached Erickson with a late walk-on offer, he jumped even though he was able to only play two flag football games in the fall while waiting to join the team in the spring."

UDFA for the Bengals. Makes the roster by bouncing a valued veteran return specialist like B. Tate from said roster.

The piece Hobson wrote on him a couple of weeks ago with worth re-reading today.

WHO DEY!!!
Today I'm TEAM SEWELL. Tomorrow TEAM PITTS. Maybe TEAM CHASE. I can't decide, and glad I don't have to.

Hey, if that happens I'll be cheering like crazy. It's not that I have anything against Erickson, I have been pulling for him to make the team all along. I just realize how many catches Tate has secured in games (many many) and how many Erickson has secured in real games with the ones bearing down on him..(zero). I would have been happier to keep Tate in reserve and cut LaFell, who has shown us nothing as of yet.

If I had a gripe it was usually whenever one of our WRs got injured and you look down the roster and think 'man, if only we had a guy who could return AND play WR at a higher level.' But best of luck to Tate.

Dead on.  Good luck, Tater.
