This closes the door on Billings for the year.

Not necessarily. As of this year, anyone on IR can be brought back after 8 weeks, but that can only be used on one player on IR. There is no longer a specific IR-Designated-to-Return.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

That's only true for players that are on the 53 man roster at the final cuts. By placing Billings on IR now they are saying that he is definitely out for the season.

And the team is expected to use that for Peerman or perhaps Jackson depending on each one's recovery

Still not sure about this front office. The Browns can trade Punters for 4th round picks, have double the draft picks in each round for the next 2 years (not including comps), yet this front office with the "deepest roster in the league" can't trade anyone. Weird. Browns are set with these moves. Not sure how such poor and talentless roster can bring so much in return. Props to their front office. Wish the Bengals front office was a little more savvy.

Just like the article said on the website, hoping for no more injuries Thursday, and that game will decide who stay on the 53 roster, which means 22 will go.

Any guesses on the final 53, assuming no major injuries Thursday night?

1) If you have a deep and talented roster, why would you trade someone off of it?

2) As a Bengals fan I want Cleveland to have as many draft picks as they can get given their history.

Cause your going to cut good players (theoretically)

They have blown tons of picks and this last draft with all those picks don't look much better, but sooner or later they're going to get it right.

Or Billings. Peerman will only miss 6 weeks as long as it's a clean break. They won't put him on IR. Just inactive until week 5.

They said he was getting pushed around by 2nd team players in camp.

Doubtful he can miss all this time and come back and be major contributor at seasons end anyway.

If all goes well maybe he can be a force next season after learning system and building more strength to stand ground verses  1st team.

Hilarious Hilarious

Yeah, right.  If only the Bengals were ran as well as the Browns.

Hilarious Hilarious

I mean an extra first and 2 extra 2nd round picks over the next two years are actually "double the draft picks in each round for the next 2 years".

they can't use it on Billings because he didn't make the 53 squad.  Obviously the team feels he won't be ready this year

Good one.

The Browns are basically cutting anyone that has talent on their team or trading anyone.

Having 17 new draft picks this year was completely stupid.  IF more than a couple of those guys pan out, they are completely screwed when it comes to trying to sign them to their second contract since they can only use the tag on one of those players.

Sure, they got a ton of new guys, but they will pay for it in the future IF (and that's a huge IF with the Browns) any of them pay off.

Also, it's not hard to stockpile a bunch of picks when you are trading out of #2.  However, it still leaves them without a QB to build their team around.

Maybe we'll get another sweetheart deal out of Hue for mccarron.

I honestly don't want McCarron anywhere near the AFC North.  If Dalton hadn't played so well last year, I would have had no problem moving forward with McCarron.  I really think he has the "it" factor and tends to play very well in pressure situations.

Hopefully a team in the NFC would give up a first rounder for him.

Nah don't help Hue out now that's hes coaching the browns.      trades between division rivals usually don't happen very often.

Probably the best direction for Billings at this point.  He will get mentored by Peko and be ready next year.
