The Difference between the Bengals and Pittsburg?
(01-11-2017, 09:47 PM)cvbengals Wrote: They're just a better run organization, better owners, better coaching, better players. Maybe one day we'll get there, but we're not there now or will be in the near future, Steelers don't cheat, refs don't favor them. We dominated them in the 80s but not since, Plain and simple. They're better.

BS. Especially the latter. Check out the vines thread from the Bengals/Steelers game earlier this season. Not sure how you can make such a statement with a straight face after seeing some of those plays. And that's just one game.

To all the ref/ calls/ nfl favoritism

The Steelers bring and have been bring for years a product on the filed of hard hitting football, also their offense now fits into the NFLs view of more points is better. They throw the ball alot , have two amazing running backs, their oline is nasty.

They fit the mold of what the NFL wants to put out there and always have. The Bengals are similar but havent done it that long and they only hard hitter on the team is scrutinized. We have a DB on the Bengals who is 30 plus who should be at home with his family resting, but instead hes being a thug and getting arrested spitting on nurses trying to help him.....thats the 90th time hes been in trouble - hyperbole-

The Bengals were on the cusp of being a Pittsburgh/ New England.........but obviously its not gonna happen. We have so much talent on our team but no one to call out people anymore. Its sad really. We were so close. Teams actually had to worry about Cincinnati on the schedule. Not anymore i dont think....its poopy doop

I have thought the same thing.  The 90's were actually a very good decade to be a Brown.

Differences:

The Bengals drafted Bernard over Bell. The Bengals drafted Zeitler over DeCastro.

The Steelers defense appears to be faster than ours and much, much more physical.

The Steelers linebackers can generally all run too. Our linebackers tend to be big and slow.

That's normal for 3-4 linebackers to be faster and a little smaller than 4-3 linebackers but the Cincinnati linebackers are way too slow, even Vontaze Burfict.

Yep. The Steelers DB's are contesting most passes to the Chiefs WR.

Crazy considering they rarely use high picks on them. With all of our 1st Round picks you'd think that would be us.

You're a very observant poster and you're spot on about the Pittsburgh linebackers. 3-4 outside linebackers generally have more pass defense responsibility than their 4-3 weak and strong counterparts.

2 reasons for this 1. alex smith is a sub-par QB 2. it's the playoffs there is a third reason but that's coaching and invalid since our coaches have left for most head coaching jobs in the league.

The recurring theme seems to be that the Bengals--usually with a better overall team than the Steelers--find a way to lose. Some teams--even with average talent--seem to find a way to win. It's certainly not about talent for the Bengals.

And, as witnessed just now, they get a LOT of suck from the refs. Shitty call pretty much saved them.

This season was a perfect example.

The NFL Steelers have been around since 1945.

They have been the most consistent organization since 1972.

The NFL Bengals have been around since 1968.

From 1968 to 1990 when Paul Brown was the owner, in spite of the most horrible, hindsight, choice he made by hiring Tiger Johnson over Bill Walsh as his HC replacement, when Brown stepped down as HC, here is the Bengals/Steelers regular season game record:

(Keep in mind the Bengals were in the AFL the first two years 1968 and 1969 and did not play the Steelers)

1970-1990 Bengals W/L Record with Steelers

Wins  Losses
  23       18

From 1991 to the present, under the ownership of Mike Brown

1991-Present Bengals W/L Record with Steelers

Wins   Losses
  14         37

You decide!!!

But keep in mind that those stats include the 1990s, when the Bengals could have lost to a good college team. What's the record since Marvin Lewis became the head coach?

Marvin Lewis has beaten the Steelers only eight times since 2003. That means he is 8-22 against Pittsburgh including the two playoff games in 2005 and 2015. That's approximately the same results from the 1990s in win-loss record.

Mediocre Marv lost a lot of games to the steelers and esp. in PBS. he's been good against the rest of the division, just not the steelers.

if harrison did not utilize streoids what other drugs he utilize, he is practically 40 and playing like this. same goes for Thomas Brady.

Steelers win in old school playoff fashion. With Big Ben playing small (72.5 rating) while the run game explodes and the defense plays extremely well.

QB and OLB are far different positions. QB's, if elite, typically last longer than any position other than kicker/punter as long as injuries are absent.
Through 2023

Mike Brown’s Owner/GM record: 32 years  223-303-4  .419 winning pct.
Playoff Record:  5-9, .357 winning pct.
Zac Taylor coaching record, reg. season:  37-44-1. .455 winning pct.
Playoff Record: 5-2, .714 winning pct.

Don't think it's relevant. If talent & raw material were the issue, I could see it being relevant. But those things aren't issues. The Bengals routinely have as much talent as any roster, (especially) including the Steelers. They've drafted smartly during the Lewis era, and are known for being really shrewd in that area. Several of their assistant coaches have gotten head coaching jobs. They've largely been a model of stability since Lewis came on board, and they've won at least four conference championships since then. On the field in big games, though, it's a mentality and an expectation. They just haven't been able to turn that corner. The Steelers? Even tonight, they managed to win a game they shouldn't have. It took an official's call to allow them to move on.

Plus they were saved multiple times by bad calls/no-calls. At best the game should be in overtime and more likely the Chiefs should have won as at least one of the no-calls (blatant PI on Kelce) took a FG at least off the board.

6 FGs won't be enough in Foxboro.

The 90's Bengals were actually better against the Steelers than Marvin.

Seriously. That's pathetic.
