Add Tavon Wilson, Nevin Lawson, Tahir Whitehead
#1
These Lions starters under Teryl Austin know his system. Just as Zimmer brought in some Dallas starters, let Austin bring in some Detroit starters. It will immediately help our defense in 2018. Wilson would be a huge add on and could replace losing Reggie Nelson at safety finally. He is a good starting safety that Austin can depend on. If we only get him it would help. Adding on starting linebacker Whitehead and/or starting cornerback Lawson would be even better. If we could get Wilson and some of these others, they fit and have started in Austins D. The defensive end Ansah is probably expensive and Bengals already have a lot of money in Atkins, Dunlap and others. I think they could land the starting safety at a fair price Mike Brown can live with, and maybe the other two. So go after Wilson, Lawson, Whitehead and keep them starting for Teryl Austin on Bengals. If you combine a good Lions D with a good Bengals D the results could be a Super Bowl D. Teryl Austin of Lions could be as good as Hall of Fame LeBeau of Lions, both experts in all things defensive back. Another reason to get safety Wilson who started for him.

If we land Detroit players of Austins in free agency, it opens the door to go full out early in the draft on fixing the offensive line and giving the new O Line coach from Dallas Cowboys hopefully some players that can actually block. Sadly there are no Cowboys starting O Line in Free Agency, so look to the draft. With added D tackling and added blocking, the rest of the team such as Dalton, Green, Bernard, Mixon, Atkins, Dunlap should excel and return to play-offs on the quest to win in play-offs and the goal of Super Bowl for these star players.

I'm on board with this idea. Bringing in players who already know the system can assist in getting the entire D up to speed.

On board with idea, but remember Austin said he forms the scheme around the players. Much more talent here so the scheme here could be entirely different.

Good point. Didn’t recall reading that approach. Going to be difficult however for him to digest the entire roster of D and build a successful scheme the first year. We shall see. However, will be refreshing to see a coach build on strengths of the individuals.

I'm not going to say we have much more talent here.  We always assume Bengals are loaded on talent. Actually we could use some new people added to our defense.  Most agree we are still hurting from no longer having Reggie Nelson and why I really want the talented safety Wilson. We always seem to lack at linebacker, and Whitehead is a top starter. There are Lions free agents who have started for Austin and would improve Bengals weak areas on defense. Austin is still Austin and has coached under Joe Paterno, Lloyd Carr, Mike Holmgren, Ken Whisenhunt, Urban Meyer, John Harbaugh. I want him to bring in people as Zimmer who had coached under Bill Parcells brought in players he knew from Dallas. That both Zimmer and Austin bring working with some of the best coaches in football to the Bengals. Austin actually has been coaching teams to play-off wins and Super Bowls, so I'm all for letting him bring in players as Zimmer did.

Yeah, these players also fit our weaknesses as well.

Sounds like the perfect move so Austin can make his move extremely smooth and painless as our DC.
