As Gomer Pyle used to say...

"Well, golly!"

Seriously though, this is disgusting.

I am afraid to ask if anyone is going to defend this conduct. So, I will ask if anyone - whether formerly in the service or not - would like to condemn it? Anyone?

Quell your fears. Of course this type of action deserves condemnation and I doubt one would have had to served to pass judgment. I will say that I get some solace in the fact the person behind these leaks was not an active service member and that the USMC is doing all they can to persecute and provide the victims with proper counseling. Victims outside of the armed services may not receive such assistance.

This isn't going to turn out very well for quite a few Marines.  How do you fix stupid?

Sounds like some sort of marine-only revenge porn thing.

Is this old news?  I remember and NCIS show, I think, several months or a year ago where some guy aboard a carrier was using a hidden camera to spy on the women.

Sadly it is neither old nor fake news. It is breaking news.

Maybe there was some other incident.  I think the guy in the show even posted the pics on some website.  Just mentioning it because a lot of times tv shows steal from current headlines.

A little over a year ago there was a bunch of female Soldiers that posed on FB breastfeeding in uniform. It caused a stir.

Saw on the news last night some guy started a Google Drive and then solicited others to submit pictures.

Victims of this kind of stuff usually have a hard time combating this unless the state gets involved, os it's good at the military is getting involved. Fortunately, this was shared on a google drive and not a public forum, so it's likely that it may not be as wide spread.

In the past, consenting to your picture taken used to give ownership of the photos to the one who took them, but new revenge porn laws now make it a crime in many states to share these kinds of photos with the purpose of causing harm to that person or without their permission.

Oh, there was spy cams? The article I saw about it was talking about a woman who had her photos put on there from Instagram. (Don't Post Things Online 101 should be a mandatory class in school.)

I thought the issue surrounding it was due to horrible comments left about the photos from what I read, not that there was spy cam photos and shit.

Either way, not good.

I thought it was a situation where a guy was sharing nudes of an ex or a former hook up. If there are spy cams involved, that's a whole other level of the legal hammer coming down.

Sounds like the NCIS episode was loosely based on or alluding to "Tail Hook." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailhook_scandal

Actually there was - per all I have read and heard - a private/invitation only Facebook page counting 30,000 (many active duty and retired Marines) as members.

I think it was both.  Some were originally obtained legally, but others may have been secretly taken.

Per accounts I have seen and heard there were troves of pictures of multiple female Marines, many taken without their consent or lifted from their personal collections without their permission, some revealing, some nude... and comments up to and including encouraging rape of said soldiers. So, to all speculating on the level of this - yeah, it is not "a few gals" who had their feelings hurt by "a few bad apples."

Never looked at the story. The female marines i was around were not the type you would want these pictures of. My god i was convinced they were putting something in the water.

So likely phishing and icloud account hacking as well.

I don't believe anyone here is doing that or has their feelings hurt.

Most of the women I served with years ago looked like tugboat captains -- and I wasn't in the Navy.

This from a guy that hates Trump. How ironic.
