Burrow Recruiting Collins
#81
(03-18-2022, 11:37 AM)Whatever Wrote: I would say it's getting close without making any other moves to clear space, as that number doesn't include a few guys that details aren't known on yet.  Of course, the full cap hits for those guys won't hit because they'll knock other guys out of the top 51.

However, a lot can be done with structure to drastically lower cap hits on multi year deals, which guys like Collins and Tretter would demand.

So when I'm hearing unofficially and I'm no insider just to be clear, is that this Collins thing is more expensive than anticipated and the Tretter thing and others are on hold.

Dehner suggested that Tretter isn't a thing at all, so we can probably drop that.
Everything in this post is my fault.

Yeah, but you have to subtract the 5-6 deals not included in that total yet. It fell to $12.2 after Allen's deal for $1.5 is included. Apple reportedly signed for $4 mil. That takes it down to $9 mil (keep in mind guys making $800k are moving off the books as this happens). Hurst, Tupou, Michael Thomas, and Harris do not have their price tags applied yet. That number is likely around $5 mil once those deals get added in.

At this point I don't think the team can afford Spain or Hopkins or Tretter

Is this including Waynes salary? Cause he will be cut the second we need call space imo

I think Frank Pollack will be the one to seal this deal.

I'm not going to rule anyone out who has a season ending injury.  It's not like Tyler Eifert is taking the field.

Now, he's missed time for 'other reasons' and those reasons should weigh in....but injuries are definitely not the reason we should not sign him.

I don't believe he has finished a year without missing games and last year he could not play in 5 games because of suspension, ive read a couple dallas articles that pointed out this is part of reason they decided not to sign him.  So if we do sign him make it short term not long term with the concerns he presents

Something else to keep in mind while we're waiting. The Bengals were dead set on signing Jensen. If the Bengals did sign Jensen, they probably wouldn't have had the money to even consider Collins at this point.

Do you look anything up before stating this? 5 games for suspension last year and the injury the year before but otherwise almost a full 16/16

Collin's first year as a full time starter was 2017. He only missed 1 game from 2017 through 2019. He missed all of 2020 with a hip injury and 5 games in 2021 because of suspension. He played at a high level in 2021 after his hip injury so that really isn't an issue.

Don't know if we were "dead set", but if we signed Jenson we would not have signed Karras.

It seems the front office wants Karras to play center instead of guard. So you're probably correct.
